For a stiff rotating watch bezel, first check for visible debris and gently brush the outside gap with a soft-bristled brush. If the bezel stays stiff, rotates too freely, or will not settle into alignment, stop rather than prying it off or adding lubricant: bezel retainers, springs, and gaskets vary by model, and opening the watch may affect water resistance. Have persistent problems inspected by the manufacturer or a qualified watchmaker.
How to fix a stiff rotating watch bezel
Clear visible debris gently
Dirt caught below a bezel can interfere with its movement. Orient’s maintenance guide recommends using a soft toothbrush in the gap and cautions against alcohol and other chemicals. Samsung likewise recommends a soft-bristled brush or a gentle puff of air for debris around the bezel of a Galaxy Watch. These are product-specific care instructions, not permission to wet or rinse every watch. Follow your own model’s manual, and do not introduce water if it does not permit water exposure. Keep cleaning external and gentle. A small soft brush may remove visible debris, but it will not repair worn or damaged parts or establish that the watch remains water-resistant. If the bezel is still stiff after cleaning, stop and arrange model-specific service.

Do not force or lubricate it
A bezel’s retaining system and seals differ by watch. The available assembly instructions for the CrystalTimes CT710 describe a press, click spring, and lubricated bezel gasket for that particular build; they do not establish a safe repair method for other watches. Do not pry off an unspecified bezel, bend a spring, press the bezel back on, or apply generic lubricant. Incorrect work can damage the bezel or compromise water resistance. Why is my watch bezel loose or missing its clicks?
A bezel that moves too freely, will not stay in position, or has lost its distinct clicks may have a mechanical problem that simple cleaning cannot resolve. Seiko’s 4R35/4R36 diver-watch instructions specify that the bezel should turn smoothly and must not be too loose or too tight. That guidance applies to the cited watches; the correct feel and repair depend on your model. Seiko 4R35/4R36 instructions.
Ask the manufacturer’s service center or a qualified watchmaker to inspect a loose or damaged bezel, especially if you rely on the watch’s water resistance. A repair may involve model-specific parts and should not be attempted by pressing or adjusting components based on a different watch’s construction.

Why does my bezel look crooked?
Check the watch from directly above and see whether the bezel has fully settled into a click position. On ARES watches, the company says a bezel can appear crooked when it is between click positions; viewing angle (parallax) or paint variation can also affect how the markers look. If the marker still looks off once the bezel is seated—or the bezel shifts, binds, or has visible impact damage—seek model-specific inspection rather than trying to realign it by force.

Is it safe to dive if the bezel is stiff or loose?
No: if a diver’s watch bezel is abnormally stiff, too loose, or otherwise not functioning as its manual requires, do not rely on it for a dive. Seiko’s cited 4R35/4R36 instructions say not to use the watch for diving if an abnormality is found in the listed checks. They also recommend an overhaul approximately every two to three years for the watches covered by that guidance; this is Seiko’s recommendation for those models, not a universal service interval. Check your own watch’s documentation and arrange inspection if you find a problem. Seiko 4R35/4R36 instructions.
Some diver bezels rotate in one direction only. Seiko’s 8L35/8L55 instructions warn not to force its one-way bezel clockwise and say elapsed-time indication is only a guide during a dive.
