What is the black Cartier Tank Must?
It is a black-dial version of the steel Tank Must, rather than a Tank Louis Cartier. George Cramer’s June 9, 2022 Fratello feature describes a quartz watch with case dimensions of 33.7 × 25.5 mm. The article says the black model would be offered in two sizes, but does not provide the dimensions for both sizes or reference numbers; the stated dimensions should not be assumed to describe both.
How does it wear and what are the strap options?
Cramer describes the medium size as comparable in feel to classic Tank Louis Cartier and vintage Must de Cartier Tank proportions. That is his assessment, not a dimensional equivalence. The launch description pairs the watch with a black alligator strap and notes Cartier’s QuickSwitch system for changing leather straps. An optional steel bracelet gives the watch a more integrated look; the article says bracelet links can be added or removed with a small screwdriver.
Cramer characterizes the quartz watch as low-maintenance and suitable for regular wear, and says its battery needs replacement about once every eight years. That interval is his launch-era description, not a guarantee of battery life under every use or condition.

Was this black Tank Must previously a limited edition?
Yes, but the earlier watch was a distinct Geneva boutique edition of 50 pieces, associated with the boutique’s reopening. Cramer says it had an onyx set into the crown and a boutique engraving on the case back. He describes the later black Tank Must as sharing the earlier watch’s other details and dimensions, while entering Cartier’s regular lineup with a worldwide release planned for September 2022. The earlier limited-edition count does not describe the production run of the regular model.
The black watch followed Cartier’s colorful Tank Must models introduced in 2021. Cramer says those colorful versions were not limited editions, though Cartier treated them as a one-shot series and did not disclose production numbers.

Is the Tank Must mechanical?
No. The black Tank Must discussed here uses quartz. For a mechanical black-dial alternative mentioned in the same feature, Cramer points to the Tank Louis Cartier in yellow gold, powered by Cartier caliber 1917 MC. It is a different watch, with a different case material and movement—not a mechanical version of this steel Tank Must.
