The Casio Duro remains the value choice for an accurate, low-maintenance 200 m quartz tool watch. Choose the Orient Kamasu if you want an automatic with sapphire crystal, the Citizen Promaster BN0150-28E for Eco-Drive power and ISO 6425 certification, or the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD when Seiko styling and mechanical appeal matter more than a 200 m diver rating.
At a glance
These watches serve different definitions of “affordable diver.” The Duro is a large, straightforward quartz watch with a screw-lock crown and caseback, mineral glass, a date display and 200 m water resistance. The Kamasu is the specification upgrade for an automatic buyer: sapphire crystal, a screw-down crown and a 200 m air-diver rating. Citizen’s Promaster adds formal ISO 6425 certification and light-powered Eco-Drive operation. Seiko’s SRPD is an automatic everyday sports watch with a 10 bar rating, not a like-for-like 200 m diver in the cited specification.

What the Casio Duro MDV-106 actually offers
The Duro’s appeal is not a single headline specification. It is the way its specifications work together: quartz timekeeping, a long battery interval, a screw-lock crown and caseback, a unidirectional anti-reverse bezel, a date and a 200 m water-resistance claim. That is a useful tool-watch package at a relatively low purchase price.
Core specifications
- Water resistance: 200 m (660 ft) on the classic MDV-106 specification and the current MDV106C-1AV listing.
- Accuracy: Casio states ±20 seconds per month for the MDV106C-1AV.
- Power: approximately three years from an SR626SW battery.
- Construction: stainless-steel case and aluminum bezel, mineral glass, screw-lock crown and screw-lock back.
- Functions: date display and a unidirectional diver’s bezel.
Casio lists 44.2 mm width, 48.5 mm length and 12.1 mm height for the MDV106C-1AV, with a 96 g cloth-band variant. A classic MDV-106 specification lists 48 × 44 × 12 mm and 92 g. The difference reflects the particular reference and measurement convention, not two radically different watches. Check the exact suffix, band and color before ordering.

Where the Duro wins
Quartz is the practical advantage. The watch keeps running while it is stored, does not need winding and does not stop after a weekend off the wrist. A three-year battery interval also makes ownership predictable. The stated ±20 seconds per month is a useful, concrete expectation; it is not a promise that every individual watch will remain at exactly that rate in every temperature and position.
Where it gives ground
Mineral glass is more vulnerable to scratches than sapphire, and the case is large for a watch that many buyers will wear casually. Quartz also lacks the mechanical display-back appeal and tactile winding experience of an automatic. The Duro is best understood as an inexpensive instrument, not as a miniature luxury object.
Quartz, automatic or light-powered: the ownership decision
Quartz: least maintenance and the most predictable routine
A quartz movement uses a battery and electronic regulation. In this group, the Duro exemplifies the format: it offers a stated monthly accuracy figure and an approximately three-year battery interval. You set it, wear it and replace the battery on a multi-year schedule. Battery replacement should include a gasket inspection and pressure-resistance check if you rely on the watch for swimming or diving.

Its trade-off is that the battery is a consumable and the movement does not provide the visual or tactile appeal associated with a mechanical caliber.
Automatic: mechanical appeal in exchange for a power reserve
An automatic winds its mainspring from wrist motion and can also be wound manually when the design allows it. It will stop after its power reserve is exhausted, so a watch removed for a day or two may need resetting. The Kamasu’s exact reference listing identifies an automatic movement, while the Seiko SRPD79 uses the 4R36 caliber and specifies approximately 41 hours of reserve.

Mechanical ownership also brings eventual service requirements. Lubricants age, seals need attention and accuracy can change as the watch is worn, magnetized or impacted. Those are normal implications of a mechanical movement, not defects unique to either model. Choose an automatic because you value that interaction, not because it eliminates maintenance.
Eco-Drive: light-powered convenience
Citizen’s BN0150-28E uses Eco-Drive, which stores energy generated from light. Citizen presents it as eliminating routine battery changes. It therefore addresses the main quartz inconvenience while retaining quartz-like daily convenience. It is particularly attractive if you want to leave the watch running without planning a battery replacement, but it remains an electronic watch rather than a mechanical one.

Orient Kamasu: the automatic specification upgrade
The Kamasu is the clearest step up from the Duro for a buyer who wants a mechanical movement without giving up a 200 m diver specification. Orient’s official specification material describes its diver models with an in-house automatic F6727 movement, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, unidirectional rotating bezel, date and a 200 m ISO-standard air-diver rating. A retailer listing for the exact RA-AA0003R19B reference gives a 42 mm case, 13 mm thickness and an automatic F6922 movement.
Why sapphire changes the comparison
Sapphire is substantially more scratch-resistant than mineral glass in normal wear. That matters on a watch intended for travel, desk work and outdoor use, where a crystal can encounter door frames, tools or grit. Replacing a damaged crystal still costs money, and sapphire can be more susceptible to fracture from a sharp impact than its scratch resistance suggests. The practical gain is fewer everyday scratches, not immunity from damage.
Read the movement reference carefully
The cited official Orient material and the retailer specification use different caliber designations (F6727 and F6922). Treat the exact reference, market and production run as decisive. Confirm the movement printed in the seller’s specification or on the watch before purchase if caliber identity matters to you; do not assume every Kamasu listing uses the same designation.

Who should pay more for it
Choose the Kamasu when you want sapphire, a 42 mm case that is slightly more compact than the Duro’s listed dimensions and the experience of an automatic movement. It is the strongest all-round specification package here for a mechanical buyer. You still accept a finite power reserve and eventual mechanical servicing, so it is not a maintenance-free upgrade.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsSeiko 5 Sports SRPD79: an everyday automatic, not a 200 m diver substitute
Seiko lists the SRPD79 with its 4R36 automatic caliber, manual winding, approximately 41 hours of power reserve, a 42.5 mm diameter, 13.4 mm thickness, Hardlex crystal, a unidirectional bezel, a see-through and screw caseback, and 10 bar water resistance. It also provides day/date functionality.
What the 10 bar rating means
Seiko’s customer guidance distinguishes a 200 m diver watch from a 10 bar enhanced-everyday watch. Ten bar is useful for ordinary water exposure and many recreational situations, but the cited SRPD specification is not presented as a 200 m diver or as an ISO-certified dive watch. That distinction should decide the purchase if scuba use is part of the plan.
Why it remains attractive
The SRPD is compelling for its Seiko design language, automatic movement, manual-winding option and day/date display. The see-through back lets you view the movement, something the straightforward Duro does not offer. Hardlex sits between mineral and sapphire in the trade-off: it is a branded hardened glass, but it does not provide the same scratch resistance as the Kamasu’s sapphire.
Pick the SRPD when your priority is an automatic sports watch for daily wear and the 10 bar rating fits your activities. Do not buy it as a specification-for-specification replacement for a 200 m diver.

Citizen Promaster Diver BN0150-28E: the formal quartz dive option
Citizen describes the BN0150-28E as an ISO 6425-certified Promaster Diver with 200 m water resistance, a unidirectional timing bezel and luminous markers. Its Eco-Drive system uses light and removes routine battery changes. Citizen’s product page says the model retails for under $300, but retail pricing changes by seller and region.
Why ISO 6425 matters here
ISO 6425 is a dive-watch performance standard, not merely a pressure number printed on a dial. Certification indicates that the model was evaluated against the standard’s requirements for diver watches. Citizen’s cited guidance identifies a 200 m diver watch as suitable for scuba diving. That makes the Promaster the strongest choice in this comparison for a buyer who wants formal dive-watch credentials and quartz-like convenience.
Its trade-offs
Eco-Drive avoids routine battery changes, but it still depends on an energy-storage system and should not be left indefinitely in darkness. The cited product material does not provide a crystal specification or case dimensions, so those details should be confirmed from the exact regional listing. Buy it for the certification and light-powered operation rather than assuming every Promaster configuration shares identical materials.
200 m versus 10 bar: how to interpret water resistance
Water-resistance figures are test-pressure categories, not promises that a watch can be worn indefinitely at the stated depth. Seiko warns that water resistance is not permanently guaranteed because gaskets age and can be affected by deformation or shock. A watch that has been opened, dropped or exposed to heat should be checked before serious water use.

- Casio Duro: 200 m water resistance, screw-lock crown and screw-lock back; the cited material does not identify ISO 6425 certification.
- Orient Kamasu: 200 m ISO-standard air-diver rating, screw-down crown and unidirectional bezel.
- Citizen Promaster BN0150-28E: 200 m water resistance with ISO 6425 certification.
- Seiko SRPD79: 10 bar enhanced everyday water resistance in the cited specification.
Practical precautions
- Keep the crown fully screwed down before contact with water; a crown left open defeats the case seal.
- Do not operate the crown or bezel underwater unless the manufacturer explicitly permits it.
- Have seals inspected whenever the case is opened, including during battery service.
- After a hard impact, assume water resistance may have changed until the watch is pressure-tested.
- Match the watch to the activity: the 10 bar SRPD is the outlier here, while the Duro, Kamasu and Promaster carry 200 m claims in their cited specifications.
Crystal, bezel, crown and case size: the details you feel every day
Crystal materials
| Model | Crystal | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Casio Duro MDV-106 | Mineral glass | Lower replacement-cost expectation than sapphire, but more prone to scratches |
| Orient Kamasu | Sapphire | Best scratch resistance among the cited specifications; impact damage is still possible |
| Seiko SRPD79 | Hardlex | Hardened glass suited to everyday wear, without sapphire’s scratch resistance |
| Citizen BN0150-28E | Not stated in the cited product material | Confirm the exact regional specification before buying |
Bezel and crown hardware
A unidirectional bezel is a safety feature: if it is knocked during a dive, the elapsed-time indication can move toward a shorter remaining time rather than falsely extending it. The Duro, Kamasu, SRPD and Promaster descriptions all include a unidirectional bezel or timing bezel. Screw-lock or screw-down crowns add a sealing step that push-pull crowns do not provide, but they only protect the watch when fully engaged and when the gaskets remain healthy.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Wrist fit
The Duro’s roughly 44–48.5 mm measurements can dominate a small wrist. The Kamasu’s listed 42 mm case and the SRPD’s 42.5 mm diameter are more compact on paper, although thickness, lug length, strap stiffness and bezel overhang also affect wear. A small specification advantage is not worth discomfort: measure your wrist and compare lug-to-lug dimensions where the seller provides them.
Price and value without false precision
Prices move with region, seller, colorway and promotions. Casio’s MDV106C-1AV page displayed $110 when captured. Seiko’s SRPD79 page displayed a US price of $375 when captured. Citizen’s US listing says the BN0150-28E retails for under $300. Those are dated page snapshots, not guaranteed current prices; the Kamasu price is not stated in the cited material. Check the live seller listing, warranty terms, return policy and exact reference before treating any price as a value verdict.
Value depends on what you would otherwise add later. The Duro’s low purchase cost comes with mineral glass and a battery to replace. The Kamasu’s sapphire and automatic movement may justify a higher price if those are your priorities, but mechanical servicing is an eventual ownership cost. The Promaster’s higher initial price than a basic quartz watch can be rational if ISO certification and no routine battery changes matter to you. The SRPD’s value is tied to its design and mechanical experience, not to 200 m dive capability.
Choose by use case
For the lowest-cost dependable tool watch
Choose the Casio Duro MDV-106. It combines the clearest low-upkeep proposition with a 200 m rating, screw-lock hardware, a date and a stated ±20 seconds-per-month accuracy figure. Accept the large case and mineral crystal.
For an automatic with sapphire
Choose the Orient Kamasu RA-AA0003R19B. Its cited specification combines an automatic movement, sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, unidirectional bezel and 200 m ISO-standard air-diver rating. Verify the exact caliber designation in the listing because the cited official and retailer materials differ.
For Seiko style and mechanical appeal
Choose the Seiko 5 Sports SRPD79 if 10 bar is sufficient for your daily use. Its 4R36 movement, manual winding, day/date display and see-through back make it engaging to wear, but its cited rating does not make it a 200 m diver.
For certified diving capability without battery changes
Choose the Citizen Promaster Diver BN0150-28E. Eco-Drive removes routine battery replacement, while the 200 m ISO 6425 certification supplies the clearest formal dive-watch credential in this group.
Buying and maintenance checklist
- Confirm the reference. Casio MDV variants differ in band, color and listed dimensions; make sure the seller’s suffix matches the watch you intend to buy.
- Check the movement description. For the Kamasu, reconcile the F6727 and F6922 designations against the exact reference and market.
- Decide whether certification is essential. If you need a formally certified dive watch, the Citizen’s ISO 6425 statement is explicit; do not infer certification from “200 m” alone.
- Inspect the crown and bezel. The crown should screw down cleanly, and a unidirectional bezel should turn only in the intended direction.
- Plan service around the power system. Replace the Duro battery at roughly its three-year interval and request gasket and pressure checks; keep an automatic serviced when its performance or service history warrants it; give an Eco-Drive regular access to light.
- Re-test after opening or impact. Water resistance depends on seals and case condition, so a pressure test is prudent after battery work, mechanical service or a significant shock.
Final decision
The Duro is still the benchmark for inexpensive, accurate, low-maintenance 200 m quartz ownership. It is not the best answer for every buyer. The Kamasu is the better specification-led automatic, the Promaster is the better certified quartz diver, and the SRPD is the better choice when Seiko styling and mechanical character matter more than a 200 m rating. Select the movement, certification level and case size you will actually use; the largest number on the dial is not a substitute for the right ownership experience.
