The Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000GD-9 puts the familiar square G-Shock design into a gold ion-plated stainless-steel case and solid-steel bracelet. Its defining trade-off is straightforward: a substantial 167 g full-metal watch with solar charging, radio time calibration, and Bluetooth, rather than a light, simple resin digital watch. Whether the gold finish and heft suit you is personal; comfort and long-term finish wear have not been independently assessed here.
What is the GMW-B5000GD-9?
It is a full-metal version of the square G-Shock design associated with the original DW-5000C. Casio says the DW-5000C was its original G-Shock model from 1983. On this version, the stainless-steel case and solid stainless-steel band receive gold ion plating, giving the watch a conspicuous, matching-metal look rather than the understated appearance of a resin square.
Casio describes a fine-resin cushioning material between the steel case and bezel to retain shock resistance within the metal construction. The screw-lock back is DLC-treated, and the watch uses a film solar cell and STN-LCD. These are manufacturer descriptions, not independent findings about how the finish or components hold up in extended wear. Casio’s US product page provides the model’s specifications and construction details.
How large and heavy is it?
Casio lists the case at 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm and the watch at 167 g. Those dimensions and weight matter more than the square outline alone: this is a substantial steel watch, not simply a resin G-Shock with a metallic color. If you prefer a light watch or have a smaller wrist, consider the listed weight and case dimensions before buying. The one-touch three-fold clasp and solid-steel band are specified, but clasp feel and personal comfort depend on the wearer and have not been assessed firsthand.

How do its solar, radio, and Bluetooth features work together?
Tough Solar supplies power from light. Multi-Band 6 can calibrate the time by radio signal, while Bluetooth mobile link connects the watch to the CASIO WATCHES app for time adjustment and related functions. They are complementary features: solar addresses charging, while radio and phone linking provide ways to correct time. The watch also gives a stated accuracy of ±15 seconds per month when neither signal calibration nor the mobile-link function is used.
Casio’s approximate operating-time figures are 10 months after a full rechargeable charge with no further light exposure, or 22 months in total darkness with power saving enabled. These are manufacturer-stated estimates under the specified conditions, not a guarantee of the time any individual watch will run in ordinary use.

Who is this watch best suited to?
It may suit you if
- You want the square G-Shock silhouette in a full-metal, gold-plated finish.
- You value solar charging and multiple time-correction options instead of a basic battery-powered digital watch.
- You expect to use features such as world time, alarms, the stopwatch, or countdown timer.
Consider another option if
- You want a light watch: the listed weight is 167 g.
- You prefer a discreet finish or are unsure about wearing a prominent gold-tone bracelet and case.
- You are choosing mainly on scratch performance or long-term wear. No independent finish-aging or scratch-resistance assessment is established here.
For a comparison with other G-Shock digital models, focus on actual differences in weight, dimensions, materials, power, time correction, and functions. The GMW-B5000GD-9’s full-metal build and gold finish distinguish it from resin alternatives, but those characteristics do not make it a tested performance winner. Casio’s US product listing displays comparisons with other digital models.
