Choose the GW-9500 if you want an all-digital watch with a layered compass display, lower listed weight and thickness, and trek logging. The dimensions and weights above are Casio’s published specifications, not measurements from a comparative wrist test. The GWG-B1000 is listed as 33 g heavier and 1.4 mm thicker. Its listed width is 0.6 mm less and its height 0.6 mm greater than the GW-9500’s. Individual wrist fit depends on the wearer; those figures alone do not establish which watch will feel better. What both watches can do
These are solar-powered, radio-controlled G-Shocks with the same core Triple Sensor functions: compass, altimeter, barometer, and thermometer. Both are rated for 200 m water resistance and designed with mud resistance. Casio lists an altimeter measurement range of -700 to 10,000 m for each model.
The shared sensor set means the choice is not between a watch with outdoor readings and one without them. It is more about how you want to view those readings, whether you want phone connectivity, and which logging and construction details matter to you.

Choose the GW-9500 if you want a direct digital outdoor display
Its layered compass view is the defining interface difference
The GW-9500 uses a duplex LCD: compass graphics occupy the upper display layer, while time and other readings appear below. Casio describes this layout as making the digital compass more practical. It is the more natural pick if you want a digital face and prefer compass information presented prominently rather than analog hands paired with digital readings.
It is lighter and thinner in the listed specifications
Casio lists the GW-9500 at 81 g and 14.8 mm thick, compared with 114 g and 16.2 mm for the GWG-B1000. That is a meaningful specification difference for anyone comparing bulk and weight, but it is not a substitute for trying a watch on: case shape, strap adjustment, and personal fit also matter.

Its trek logging is documented on the official product page
The GW-9500 records manual altitude data and automatic altitude, ascent, and descent logs, and it can store trek logs for up to 14 records. Pick it if those onboard records suit how you plan to review outdoor activity and you do not need the GWG-B1000’s Bluetooth app features.

Phone linking adds app-based functions
The GWG-B1000 connects to a compatible smartphone through the CASIO WATCHES app. Casio documents Mission Log, Location Indicator, Location Memory, automatic altitude correction, a phone finder, and automatic time adjustment. These features make it the better match for someone who wants a phone-linked setup and location-related functions alongside the watch’s sensors.
Rank #3
Do not treat those app features as built-in GPS navigation. Casio documents Bluetooth smartphone linking and location-related app functions; the watch is not presented as having independent GPS positioning.
Its materials and crystal differ
The GWG-B1000 is listed with a bio-based resin and stainless-steel case and bezel, plus sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating. The GW-9500 has a bio-based resin case and bezel and mineral glass. If the listed crystal and case materials are deciding factors for you, that distinction favors the GWG-B1000.

It keeps an analog-digital layout
Choose this model if you like reading time from analog hands while using the digital display for sensor data. Its construction also includes Carbon Core Guard, a screw-lock crown, and shock, vibration, and mud resistance, according to Casio’s product information.
How to make the choice
- Decide how you want to read the watch. Pick the GW-9500 for an all-digital face with a dedicated layered compass view; pick the GWG-B1000 for analog hands alongside digital sensor readings.
- Consider weight and thickness using the published figures. The GW-9500 is listed at 81 g and 14.8 mm thick; the GWG-B1000 at 114 g and 16.2 mm. Try the exact model on if wrist fit is decisive.
- Ask whether you will use phone-linked features. Bluetooth and the CASIO WATCHES app are documented for the GWG-B1000. The GW-9500’s official specification instead highlights its onboard records and trek logs.
- Compare the details you value in the case and crystal. The GWG-B1000 has listed steel/resin construction and sapphire crystal; the GW-9500 has a bio-based resin case and bezel with mineral glass.
- Match the logging functions to your use. The GW-9500 documents trek logs for up to 14 records and altitude-related records; the GWG-B1000 documents app features including Mission Log and Location Memory.
Specification details worth checking
Barometric tendency graph duration
Casio lists a 42-hour barometric tendency graph for the GW-9500 and a 20-hour graph for the GWG-B1000. These are model-specific specifications, not evidence that one watch produces more accurate forecasts.

Check the exact reference and regional listing
Casio’s pages may vary by region and watch variant. Confirm the exact model suffix and color/display variant before relying on a specification for a particular listing. The figures here follow Casio’s listed GWG-B1000-1A and GW-9500 product pages.
Verdict
For a digital-first outdoor watch with lower listed weight and thickness and documented trek logging, the GW-9500 is the clearer fit. For an analog-digital Mudmaster with Bluetooth app linking, location-related phone features, and the listed sapphire crystal and steel/resin construction, choose the GWG-B1000. The core solar, radio-controlled timekeeping, water-resistance, and sensor capabilities are shared, so let display preference and the specific extras you will use decide.
