Chopard identifies reference 298609-3001 as the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono and names its dial color Aletsch blue—not “Maritime Blue,” the wording sometimes used for this watch. The 44 mm stainless-steel chronograph combines a COSC-certified, flyback-capable automatic movement with 100 m water resistance. Chopard’s US product page displayed a price of $24,900 and described availability as very limited on October 8, 2026; confirm current local price and stock with Chopard.
What is the Alpine Eagle XL Chrono 298609-3001?
Reference 298609-3001 is Chopard’s Alpine Eagle XL Chrono in stainless steel. The official US product page calls its blue dial “Aletsch blue.” The “Maritime Blue” wording in this article’s original title is not the color designation shown on that page, and the two names should not be treated as interchangeable.
Chopard presents the XL Chrono as a modern interpretation of the St. Moritz, launched in 1980. The company describes the St. Moritz as the first watch designed by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, now Chopard’s co-president. That is the manufacturer’s account of the design lineage, rather than a direct quotation from Scheufele.

How the flyback chronograph works
A flyback chronograph lets the wearer reset and immediately restart the chronograph in one action, rather than stopping, resetting and starting it as separate steps. Chopard specifies an integrated chronograph with a column wheel for the 03.05-C movement. The listed indications include chronograph seconds, a 12-hour counter and a jumping 30-minute counter.
The movement’s approximately 60-hour power reserve is Chopard’s stated figure. It is a reserve specification, not a guarantee of identical running time in every use or condition.
