How does the Blue Planet II tell time?
Instead of conventional hands, the watch uses a sculpted miniature Earth dial and a rotating minute ring. CIGA Design says the Earth dial advances 30 degrees per hour while the minute ring rotates 390 degrees per hour; the indications align at one compass marker. The brand describes the display as inspired by Earth’s rotation and says the miniature Earth is CNC micro-engraved. What movement is inside?
CIGA Design identifies the movement as its self-developed CD-04-E Asynchronous-Follow automatic caliber. The current English product page lists a 40-hour power reserve, 21 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), and an accuracy specification of -10 to +30 seconds per day. These are manufacturer-stated specifications, not measured results for an individual watch.
There is an accuracy discrepancy across CIGA Design’s official pages: its Atlantic variant page lists -15 to +30 seconds per day for the CD-04-E, while the localized Blue Planet II page agrees with the English page’s -10 to +30 seconds per day. Check the specification for the exact Blue Planet II variant you are considering rather than assuming every listing uses the same stated range. What does the 3 ATM rating mean for use?
CIGA Design lists water resistance as 3 ATM. Treat that as the maker’s stated rating, not evidence of water-use testing or a guarantee of suitability for a particular activity.
