How the Time Cipher display works
Rather than using conventional hands that sweep around a numbered dial, the Time Cipher moves the hour indication around the dial. The hour appears on a rotating disc; a fixed marker identifies it, and the moving assembly indicates minutes. This is the wandering-hour complication in practical terms: the display changes position as time passes, so reading it takes a moment of familiarization.
CIGA Design pairs the mechanism with a dark Super Black dial. The brand says the surface absorbs 99.4% of light; that is a manufacturer claim, not an independently verified measurement. The official listing also specifies Swiss Super-LumiNova with a dark green glow.
What the published hands-on says about legibility
In a January 29, 2026 review, Sean Lorentzen of aBlogtoWatch reported that the display became quick to read after acclimation, but that the slim, stencil-style hour numerals could be tricky to read when the current hour was upside down on the wrist, from 15 to 45 minutes past the hour. That is the reviewer’s observation, not a controlled readability test, and it describes a specific trade-off: the display can become intuitive while still demanding extra attention at some times.
