The Citizen AQ4100-65L is a 600-piece worldwide limited edition released in 2024 to mark 100 years since the first CITIZEN-branded watch. Its standout detail is a hand-dyed indigo Tosa washi paper dial; inside, the watch uses Citizen’s light-powered Cal.A060 Eco-Drive movement.
Why Citizen released the AQ4100-65L
Citizen introduced this The CITIZEN model for the centenary of its first CITIZEN-branded watch. In its May 14, 2024 announcement, Citizen described it as a limited-edition model with an indigo-dyed washi paper dial marking the anniversary. The Japan release date was May 28, 2024, while the global announcement initially gave a Spring/Summer 2024 launch window.
The production run is 600 pieces worldwide, according to Citizen Japan and Citizen Watch Global Network.
What makes the indigo washi dial distinctive
The dial is made from Tosa washi paper dyed indigo using pole-wrap shibori. As Citizen’s Japan release explains, the paper is wrapped around a cylinder, gathered into fine folds and dyed through repeated steps. Because the pattern and color result from hand-dyeing, each dial is unique.

This craft process gives the AQ4100-65L its defining visual character: rather than a uniform printed blue surface, the dial carries individual variations in its indigo pattern. The limited-edition count and dial technique are related parts of the release, but the official specifications do not describe a different movement or case exclusive to the dial-making process.

How to read the limited-edition claim
The “limited edition” designation is specific and measurable here: Citizen states that 600 watches were made worldwide. It does not, by itself, establish that every unit remains available, that the watch is still being sold at its launch price, or what an example should cost on the secondary market.
For comparison with other The CITIZEN washi-dial editions, check each model’s own dial material and treatment, movement and accuracy, case and bracelet materials, dimensions, production quantity and original market-specific price. The official sources cited here do not provide a full head-to-head specification comparison with other editions.
