The Citizen Signature Grand Classic 9184 is an automatic watch movement and a family of watch references—not a single specification shared by every Grand Classic. Citizen’s manual rates the caliber for about 40 hours of maximum run time when fully wound and an accuracy range of -10 to +20 seconds per day under stated conditions. Retailer listings identify NB3010-52A and NB3016-05E as 9184 variants, but current availability and the condition of any individual example need to be checked directly.
What the Citizen 9184 movement does
Citizen’s official manual groups calibers 9184 and 9183. Both are automatic mechanical movements; the 9184 adds a 24-hour hand. It also has a power-reserve indicator. The manual lists hours, minutes, seconds and date, along with these movement specifications:
- Jewels: 26
- Beat rate: 28,800 beats per hour (8 beats)
- Maximum run time: about 40 hours when fully wound
- Stated accuracy: -10 to +20 seconds per day when worn at normal operating temperatures of +5°C to +35°C
These are manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee that a particular watch—especially a pre-owned one—currently keeps that time or runs for that long. Actual performance depends on the individual movement and its condition. Citizen’s 9184/9183 instruction manual explains the functions and operating limits.
How winding and setting work
The movement winds automatically as arm movement rotates its oscillating weight and winds the mainspring. Citizen’s manual also lists manual winding, quick date adjustment and a seconds-stop function. The power-reserve hand helps show how much running time remains; a fully wound movement is specified to run for about 40 hours.

Use the manual’s winding and setting instructions for the exact caliber rather than relying on generic instructions for another Citizen movement. To find the relevant manual, Citizen says the first four characters of a watch’s case number indicate its movement number; its manuals guide explains how to locate the matching document.
NB3010-52A and NB3016-05E: the documented differences
Retailer descriptions associate both references with caliber 9184 and list a 43 mm case and 100 m water resistance. The distinctions documented in those listings are primarily the dial and strap. Because these specifications come from secondary listings, check the exact watch and its case back before buying.

The NB3010 listing provides more construction detail than the NB3016 listing, so do not assume every specification carries over simply because the references share a movement. Confirm crystal, case-back construction, dimensions and water-resistance rating for the specific watch being offered.
Do not confuse these with Citizen’s NB0040 Grand Classic
Citizen’s US product pages for Grand Classic references NB0040-58E and NB0040-58A identify caliber 9011, not 9184. What to check before buying one
Availability, price, condition, service history and warranty eligibility are not established by the specifications. The cited Right Time pages showed the NB3010-52A and NB3016-05E as sold out when accessed; that reflects those pages, not proof of a global discontinuation or current inventory elsewhere.
- Match the reference: Check the case markings and compare them with the listing. Verify the movement number from the case number and, where possible, the case back.
- Assess operation: Ask for a recent timing check and a power-reserve check. Factory figures do not establish the performance of a particular used example.
- Check condition and service records: Look for documented service, visible damage, and signs of moisture or improper repair. A listing alone cannot confirm service history.
- Inspect what comes with it: For a bracelet model, confirm included links and fit options; for a strap model, inspect strap condition. Verify any claimed box, papers or warranty documentation.
- Review the sale terms: Confirm the asking price, return policy and seller’s description of whether the watch is new or pre-owned before paying.

Care and servicing
Follow Citizen’s operating and care precautions in the caliber manual. For bracelet adjustment, Citizen warns that incorrect work can cause the bracelet to detach and advises consulting an authorized Citizen service center. Do not treat a retailer’s water-resistance rating as proof that an older watch remains water-resistant: have its condition assessed before exposing it to water.
