Citizen Series8 is a line of automatic mechanical watches. It isn’t one watch with one shared spec sheet. Citizen’s US collection page splits it into model families built on three calibers: 0950 in the 870 models, 9051 in the 831 and 890 models, and 9054 in the 880 models. “Rugged” and “sophisticated” describe the range’s intent. What you actually get depends on the exact reference.
What the Series8 collection is
Citizen describes Series8 as a contemporary automatic mechanical collection. The brand’s own summary of the engineering is this: “Each Series8 timepiece makes use of one of three Citizen mechanical calibers—each equipped with automatic functionality and enhanced magnetic resistance alongside a significantly thinner movement profile.” That statement comes from Citizen’s official Series8 collection page. It is marketing language and no named person is credited with it. The page gives a 28,800 v/h (high-beat) frequency for the described calibers.
The figures below are Citizen’s published specifications. They are undated and were read from Citizen’s US pages in 2026. They are not independent test results.
How the model families map to movements
| Model family | Caliber |
|---|---|
| Series8 870 | 0950 |
| Series8 831 | 9051 |
| Series8 890 | 9051 |
| Series8 880 (including the GMT) | 9054 |
Two families can share a caliber and still differ in case, finish and band. Caliber alone doesn’t tell you how a watch will wear or look.
#1 Best Overall
- Confidently go from work to play with the new Odyn. Featuring a gray-tone stainless steel case measuring 41mm in diameter, the sports-focused timepiece makes use of sharp lines and monochromatic styling to make a statement on the wrist.
- A faceted 60-minute bezel, H-link bracelet, and 100m water resistance ensure all-purpose wear.
- On the dial, a textured gray display is presented, with applied indices in bright white alongside a 3 o'clock date window providing high legibility and daily utility.
- Featuring Citizen's Eco-Drive technology, sustainably powered by any light and never needs a battery. Caliber number E111.
A concrete comparison: 880 GMT versus 890
Two references on Citizen’s US product pages show how far the range varies.
| Spec | 880 GMT, NB6033-51E | 890, NB6060-58L |
|---|---|---|
| Caliber | 9054 | 9051 |
| Case diameter | 41 mm | 42.6 mm |
| Water resistance | 100 m | 200 m |
| Power reserve | 50 hours | 42 hours |
| Accuracy | not stated in the material available | +20/-10 seconds per day |
| Magnetic resistance | up to 16,000 A/m | up to 16,000 A/m |
| Extra function | GMT | not stated |
The pattern is that the GMT has the longer power reserve and a travel-time function. The 890 is larger and carries the higher water-resistance rating. Neither is simply the better watch. They suit different priorities. Don’t carry one reference’s numbers over to its siblings.

What to compare when choosing a Series8
Function
Decide whether you want a date-only watch or a GMT that tracks a second time zone. Among the cited examples, only the 880 GMT has that function.
Size and fit
Case diameter is a start: 41 mm versus 42.6 mm here. Also check the band, whether bracelet or strap, since it changes how the watch sits on the wrist. Each product page lists the configuration.

Water resistance
The cited ratings are 100 m (880 GMT) and 200 m (890). A rating is a reference-specific figure from the manufacturer, not a promise for every water activity. Follow Citizen’s care guidance for your exact model, including crown handling, and check the rating on the listing you’re buying.
Movement details
Compare the caliber, stated accuracy, power reserve and magnetic resistance. Citizen cites up to 16,000 A/m for the examples above. That is useful for daily exposure to magnets such as phones and bags, but it is a published specification, not a result we or anyone independent has verified.
Rank #4
- The "Tsuyosa" Automatic, from the NJ015 series, brings ultramodern sports styling right to your wrist. Executed in a versatile 40mm footprint, the sophisticated design of the watch makes a strong impression via a silver-tone stainless steel case and a seamlessly integrated, matching bracelet.

Materials and design
Dial, case finish, crystal and band differ by listing. Read these on the exact reference page rather than assuming them from the collection description.
Price and availability
Prices and lineup change, and Citizen’s collection page is a US listing. Check the live product page for your market and for the exact reference number before you buy. Make sure a retailer’s listing matches that reference, because colour and band variants can look alike.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsBest Value
- Polished silver-tone watch featuring blue sunray dial with stick indices and day/date window
- 40 mm stainless steel case with mineral dial window
- Japanese quartz movement with analog display
- Three-link stainless steel band with fold-over clasp
- Water resistant to 30 m (99 ft): In general, withstands splashes or brief immersion in water, but not suitable for swimming
Warranty and servicing
Citizen’s cited US product page describes a five-year limited warranty and notes that servicing may be needed over time, as with any mechanical watch. Coverage and service options depend on region and model, so confirm them for your purchase.
The Bottom Line
Treat Series8 as a family, not a single spec. Pick the function and size you’ll actually wear, then compare caliber, power reserve and water-resistance rating on the exact reference. If you want a travel-time function and a longer reserve, the 880 GMT fits. If you want the larger case and the 200 m rating, look at the 890.
