Credor’s official history places a Pacifique skeleton power-reserve chronograph in 1999, and its Japanese archive identifies the limited-edition GBBL999 as Cal. 6S99. The release belongs to Seiko’s broader mechanical revival, but the official sources available do not establish that Seiko had gone exactly 20 years without making a mechanical chronograph.
What Credor launched in 1999
Credor’s English history records a Pacifique skeleton power-reserve chronograph released in 1999, and says the model marked Credor’s international debut at Baselworld. Its Japanese historical article names the 25th-anniversary limited model GBBL999 and identifies its movement as Cal. 6S99. The 1999 watch is notable both as a Credor chronograph and as a skeleton power-reserve model. Credor’s English history associates the release with Baselworld; that does not, on its own, demonstrate a broader Seiko product launch or a precise return date for all mechanical chronographs.
What “20 years without mechanical chronographs” gets right—and what it doesn’t
The two-decade hiatus is a commonly repeated framing for the 6S chronograph’s place in Seiko history, but Credor’s official sources reviewed here do not confirm an exact 20-year interval without mechanical chronographs. The Japanese chronology says mechanical movement production halted in the late 1970s amid the transition to quartz and that Seiko mechanical movement production revived in 1992. Those statements concern mechanical movements broadly, not chronographs specifically. The documented facts support describing the 1999 Cal. 6S99 as part of a wider mechanical revival, not claiming a proven chronograph-only gap of exactly 20 years. Credor’s Japanese historical article

Cal. 6S variants and their documented functions
Credor’s English manual distinguishes 6S variants by winding method and displayed functions. This is a practical way to tell what a particular caliber designation means in the manual; it is not a complete technical comparison of the movements. Credor’s official watch manual

The manual identifies the chronograph start/stop and reset controls and the chronograph hands. It does not provide a basis here for assigning one reserve duration or a shared technical architecture to every 6S variant.

Keep Cal. 6S separate from Credor’s 68-series story
Credor’s official English timeline dates its ultra-thin Cal. 6870 models to 1993 and its first mechanical skeleton model, using Cal. 6899, to 1996. Its Japanese history describes the 68-series revival in 1993. Those models provide context for Credor’s renewed mechanical-watch activity, but they are not the same movement family as Cal. 6S99: Credor explicitly identifies GBBL999 as a 6S99 chronograph. What the official record can—and cannot—tell an owner
The official history and manual establish release references, chronology, winding classifications, and the functions listed for the 6S variants. They do not establish a complete movement specification or performance profile. In particular, these materials do not substantiate claims here about column-wheel construction, clutch design, beat rate, jewel count, service interval, power-reserve duration, or a connection to another maker’s movement. For a vintage watch, verify the exact reference and caliber from the watch and its accompanying documentation rather than assuming that all 6S watches share the same features.
