Its reported retail price was $25,000, and the one retailer listing found is marked sold out. This is a review of the evidence, not a hands-on test: the verdicts below are interpretation drawn from dealer listings, a 2012 video description, press coverage and a company quote.
What the Tread 1 Steampunk is
The Steampunk is a limited-edition treatment of Devon’s Tread 1. Retailer Kenjo’s listing names it “Devon Tread 1 Steampunk,” states a “limited edition of 150 pieces,” and lists a 316L stainless-steel case, oil-rubbed bronze PVD coating, bronze armor and brass movement parts (Kenjo). TechCrunch’s May 26, 2012 preview called it a retro-futuristic revision of the original Tread 1, with bronze and oxidized steel, rivets and exposed screws.
How the belt display works
There are no conventional hands. An aBlogtoWatch video review description (November 18, 2012) calls it an electro-mechanical watch using belts driven by small motors, and says it indicates hours, minutes and seconds.
Retailer Gemnation gives more detail: four internal belts, microstep motors, and optical technology that monitors belt position (Gemnation listing). That is seller copy, not a manufacturer specification confirmed today, so treat it as a description rather than a verified engineering sheet.

Battery and charging
- Battery life: the 2012 aBlogtoWatch description reports roughly two to three weeks. That is a historical, reported figure, not a lab test.
- Charging: Gemnation says the watch uses a rechargeable lithium-polymer cell with wireless charging.
- Not established: no current manufacturer documentation was found confirming either claim. A 2012-era battery in a watch of this age may also behave differently from the original figure, so a buyer should ask a seller about condition and the charger supplied.
Price and rarity
Ehren Bragg, managing director of Devon Works, was quoted in a 2013 luxury-watch supplement (LA Time, p. 30): “The watch I would choose for a collector — and which I wear most often — from our collection is the Tread 1 Steampunk. It’s a limited-edition of only 150 pieces for the whole world and the brass and bronze case develops a patina in specific response to the skin chemistry and pattern of use of each individual owner, which makes every single piece completely unique. Retail is $25,000.”
This is a company representative’s statement, so the patina claim is marketing description, not independent material testing. TechCrunch’s earlier 2012 expectation of “above $20,000” was a pre-release estimate and was superseded by the $25,000 figure. Kenjo’s page also shows $25,000, but it is sold out, so neither source tells you today’s resale value.

Strengths and compromises
These are editorial inferences from the design, price and availability evidence, not wrist-time impressions.
The case for it
- The display is instantly distinctive: moving belts are a kinetic spectacle that hands cannot match.
- The bronze, brass and exposed-hardware styling is committed rather than decorative.
- A 150-piece worldwide run gives genuine scarcity, and the bronze is described as developing an individual patina.
The case against it
- The original price was a five-figure luxury sum.
- The electronic and mechanical complexity raises questions about long-term servicing.
- No Steampunk-specific warranty, service provider, repair pricing or parts availability was found.
- Exact Steampunk case dimensions were not found, so wrist fit cannot be judged from the evidence. Visually it appears assertive.
Don’t borrow Tread 1D specifications
Tourneau’s page covers the Devon Tread 1D, a different model. It lists 48.45 mm by 53.44 mm dimensions, a stainless-steel case, a leather strap and a two-year manufacturer warranty. Those are Tread 1D details only. They do not establish the Steampunk’s size, strap or warranty.

Can you still buy one?
Kenjo marks its listing sold out and says it is no longer an authorized dealer for many brands it sells, so read it as dealer information, not a current manufacturer offer. Gemnation also marks the watch out of stock and asks buyers to make contact about availability. That does not prove no other dealer or marketplace has one. A current manufacturer sales channel, production status and current price were not found.

Comparing it with other watches
If you weigh it against another Tread 1 variant or a different collectible, compare display technology, verified case size, materials and finish, charging approach, edition size, condition and service documentation, and a verified asking price. Those are the axes on which the Steampunk is strong (display, edition, materials) and unproven (service, current price, fit).

The Bottom Line
The Tread 1 Steampunk is a compelling object for collectors who want a rare, belt-driven, bronze-aged curiosity, and a risky one for anyone who needs a dependable daily watch. Buy only with a verified seller, documented condition and a plan for service, because none of those can be assumed from the available evidence.
