What did Bilanz report about Carl F. Bucherer?
In a report published on 7 February 2025 and updated on 10 February, Bilanz said employees had been informed that Carl F. Bucherer would be discontinued and that remaining boutiques would close. The report attributed the decision to sustained multimillion-franc losses. Bilanz also reported that Rolex declined to comment and Bucherer described the information as “Gerüchte” (rumors).

Those details are Bilanz’s reporting, not a public confirmation from Rolex. The available official statements do not establish that Rolex announced the shutdown, nor do they independently verify Bilanz’s account of the employee briefing or the stated financial rationale.
Is Bucherer the same as Carl F. Bucherer?
No. Bucherer is the watch and jewelry retailer; Carl F. Bucherer (CFB) was Bucherer’s own luxury watch brand. The European Commission’s 2024 merger decision identifies CFB as Bucherer’s watch brand and separately identifies Bucherer Fine Jewellery as its jewelry brand. The names are related, but the retailer and the watchmaking operation are distinct.

What did Rolex’s acquisition announcement say?
On 24 August 2023, Rolex announced that it would acquire the Bucherer retail group. It said the sale followed Jörg Bucherer’s decision to sell his company in the absence of direct descendants. Rolex stated: “The watch retailer will keep its name and continue to operate independently.” That assurance described the retailer; it did not promise that Carl F. Bucherer watches would remain in production.
Rolex’s release said Bucherer then had more than 100 outlets worldwide, including 53 that distributed Rolex and 48 that distributed Tudor. Those are figures from the 2023 announcement, not a current store count. The acquisition context explains why Rolex is associated with the story, but it is not itself evidence of an official Rolex announcement about CFB’s future.
Can Carl F. Bucherer watches still be serviced?
CFB’s published service information describes a worldwide service-center network and watchmakers trained to work on the brand’s watches and movements. It lists a two-year purchase warranty, a two-year warranty for a full maintenance service, and a one-year warranty for a partial service.
These are the terms and service arrangements currently described on the brand’s site; they do not guarantee how long service will remain available after the reported wind-down. Before sending a watch in, contact CFB or the proposed service center to confirm that it accepts the particular model and movement, and ask for the scope, timing, cost, and warranty terms in writing.

Rolex’s UK Bucherer locator continues to list Bucherer retail and service locations. That listing supports the continuing Rolex-retailer relationship at those locations; it does not establish that Rolex services Carl F. Bucherer watches.

CFB’s FAQ says spare parts are guaranteed for a minimum of 20 years from the date production is discontinued. The FAQ does not give that date, and its continued availability online does not confirm that production has ended. As a result, the published policy does not yet let owners calculate a specific end date for parts availability.
The same FAQ recommends servicing approximately every four to five years and checking water resistance annually. Owners can use those intervals as CFB’s published guidance, while confirming service options and terms before arranging work.

If you already own a CFB watch
- Keep the warranty card, receipts, service records, and any available documentation of the watch’s reference and movement.
- For service, confirm in advance that the provider can handle that specific reference and ask what parts and work are covered.
- When evaluating a repair, compare the provider’s written scope, price, timing, and warranty rather than assuming all service centers offer the same terms.
If you are considering a CFB watch
- Check the exact model and reference, condition, completeness of papers, and documented service history.
- Ask the seller to substantiate provenance and disclose known repairs or issues.
- For a watch that may need work, establish a credible service route and get the provider’s terms before buying.
- Do not assume discontinuation automatically makes a particular model scarce or more valuable; that depends on the watch and the market, not the shutdown report alone.
