The accompanying article reveals only three of the 15 picks: one each from RJ, Thomas, and Nacho. The other twelve are discussed in the episode, so the published article is a partial, collector-led selection—not a complete ranking of modern Speedmasters.
What does “modern” mean in this discussion?
Here, “modern” is Fratello’s editorial scope: Speedmasters introduced or available during the 25 years preceding the episode. It is not a universal definition, and the picks are personal favorites rather than an objective assessment of every eligible reference. The episode, published May 15, 2025, runs 41:57. Fratello’s episode article and its podcast listing provide the context.
The three choices Fratello disclosed
RJ: Speedmaster Professional Silver Snoopy Award, ref. 311.32.42.30.04.003
RJ’s pick is a commemorative Snoopy edition. Fratello describes it as an early Snoopy model to go beyond putting a mission patch on the dial; its smaller details remain relatively subtle when viewed from a distance. That makes the appeal less about an all-over character motif and more about a special edition whose references reward closer attention. This is Fratello’s description of the design, not a technical assessment.
Thomas: Speedmaster ref. 3594.50.00, the “Replica”
Thomas chose the retro-styled Speedmaster known as the “Replica.” Fratello dates its introduction to 1997/98 and says production continued until 2003. That places it near the boundary of the episode’s 25-year scope, depending on how the eligibility window is interpreted. Its presence shows that “modern” in this conversation can include a model from the late 1990s and early 2000s, not only watches still sold today.

#1 Best Overall
- Model 310.30.42.50.01.002
Nacho: Speedmaster Pilot Flight Qualified, ref. 332.10.41.51.01.002
Nacho’s selection takes a different direction: a pilot-themed model with two registers, a brushed case, water resistance, and dial accents Fratello says evoke an aircraft instrument panel. Those are editorial descriptions; the accompanying article does not provide verified figures for case dimensions, water resistance, or movement specifications. The design’s appeal, as presented, is its cockpit-inspired character rather than the familiar Moonwatch layout.
How to compare these picks
The three choices represent distinct reasons a collector might favor a Speedmaster: commemorative detail, vintage-inspired styling, or a pilot-oriented instrument look. A practical comparison should go beyond the name on the dial. The source article does not establish a specification-by-specification comparison for these references, so check the exact model documentation before using technical details to choose between them.
Rank #2
- Stainless steel case
- Black dial
- Swiss-automatic movement
- Case diameter: 40mm
- Water resistant to 330 feet
- Design and inspiration: Decide whether the Snoopy edition’s commemorative details, the Replica’s retro styling, or the Pilot Flight Qualified’s cockpit cues best suit your taste.
- Size and materials: Verify the exact reference’s dimensions and case materials against Omega’s documentation; the disclosed article does not establish those specifications for all three watches.
- Movement and display-back appeal: Check the movement fitted to the precise reference and whether its caseback presentation matters to you. The episode article does not supply a complete movement comparison.
- Legibility and water resistance: Consider the dial layout and intended use, but do not infer performance from styling alone. Confirm the published water-resistance rating for the exact watch.
- Availability: Check whether the reference is currently offered new in your region or only appears through secondary-market sellers. Fratello’s article does not establish current stock or prices.
Are all three still available?
The published selection does not confirm current retail availability or regional stock. The Replica is described as having remained in production only through 2003, so it should not be treated as a current-production watch. For the Snoopy and Pilot Flight Qualified references, check a current Omega listing or authorized retailer rather than assuming a new example is available. For any secondary-market listing, verify the exact reference, seller, authenticity, and current price.
For a separate view of current models, Gear Patrol published its own personal Speedmaster ranking on August 18, 2026. It includes the Silver Snoopy Award and the Calibre 321 “Ed White,” listed there at 39.7 mm, among other references. That is a different author’s selection and is not part of Fratello’s three disclosed choices. See Gear Patrol’s current-model comparison; its prices and availability should be checked directly because they can change.
