Luming: apply luminous compound
The Luming Kit is for mixing and applying luminous compound to watch hands and dial markers. The product listing offers Japanese C3 or BGW9 lume powder and identifies the kit as using a Nemoto SuperLume formula. Flame Bluing Kit
In a June 2024 hands-on article, Robin Nooy described a heat-resistant plate, flexible-arm clamp, small container, torch, brass shavings, glass container and additional tools. Nooy says the brass shavings help disperse heat evenly and distilled water in the glass container is used to quench the hands. Luming Kit
The official listing names C3 or BGW9 lume powder, binder, premixed compound, an oiler, a mixing dish with cover, electronic balance, UV flashlight, tweezers, Rodico, toothpick, foam block and English-language video instructions. DIY Watch Club says the premixed compound can be used without thinner; thinner is not included, and the listing does not say it is necessary for every workflow. DIY Watch Club Luming Kit listing
How difficult are the processes?
Bluing: manage an open flame and heat evenly
Nooy cautions that setup needs care because the process uses an open flame. In his account, the first attempt produced uneven color, while a later attempt pleased him more. He found it difficult to get all three hands evenly colored. That is one reviewer’s experience, not a measure of typical results; work cautiously and follow the kit’s instructions.
Luming: measure accurately, then apply neatly
Nooy describes weighing the lume powder, combining it with bonding agent and binder, and applying it to hands and the layered dial. He emphasizes the scale: “The measurements of the lume mix are very precise, so the scale is very much needed.” In his experience, a runny mix may not hold, a thick one can be difficult to spread, and the mixture dries quickly. Neat application to narrow hands and dial markers takes practice. He waited more than 24 hours before inspecting the cured result; the official product page does not specify a cure time. Dial and hand configurations matter, particularly for luming. The official collection displayed a D05 dial-and-hands Luming Kit, while Nooy’s build used a sandwich dial. Confirm that the selected kit’s dial, hands and watch model match the build you intend to assemble; do not assume every configuration is interchangeable. DIY Watch Club featured collection
Price, availability and luminous-performance claims
On October 8, 2026, the official collection page displayed the Flame Bluing Kit at USD 185 and the D05 Luming Kit at USD 180. Nooy’s June 12, 2024 article reported USD 185 for bluing and USD 190 for a Japanese BGW9 luming kit at that time. DIY Watch Club’s Luming Kit listing says watches using the same Nemoto-formula pigment have achieved ISO 3157 requirements and describes luminous intensity lasting “370+ minutes.” This is the vendor’s claim, not an independently validated result in the cited material, and it does not establish that every project made with the kit will meet that performance.
