Some Galaxy Watch4 owners report scratches, but those posts do not show how common the problem is or prove that the watch has a widespread defect. Samsung specifies Gorilla Glass DX+ on the standard Watch4—not scratch-proof glass—and anecdotal reports cannot establish why a particular mark appeared.
What glass does the Galaxy Watch4 use?
Samsung’s 2021 specifications list Corning Gorilla Glass DX+ for both standard Galaxy Watch4 sizes: the 40 mm model has a 1.2-inch display, and the 44 mm model has a 1.4-inch display. See Samsung’s Watch4 product specifications. The material specification describes the glass; it does not promise that the display cannot be scratched.
The Watch4 Classic is a different variant. Samsung lists Gorilla Glass DX—not DX+—for its 42 mm and 46 mm displays in its Watch4 Classic announcement. Check the model name and size before applying a glass specification or choosing an accessory.
What do owners’ scratch reports establish?
A Samsung Community post describes a complaint about the Watch4’s glass scratching easily. A separate Reddit discussion includes an owner’s report of a scratch after a few days.

These are individual accounts, not controlled tests or representative data. They do not establish a scratch rate, show that scratches are widespread, or identify the cause of any particular mark. A post alone also cannot tell whether a mark is on a protector, the display surface, a coating, the case, or another component.
How can you reduce the chance of new marks?
If you want an added layer over the display, look for a screen protector explicitly listed as compatible with the standard Galaxy Watch4 in your exact size: 40 mm or 44 mm. Check the seller’s model and size details before buying. The cited sources do not verify any particular product’s fit or protective performance, so a protector is an optional precaution, not a guarantee or requirement.

A compatible case may also be worth considering if your concern is scuffing the watch body. Verify model and size compatibility, and check that the case leaves sensors and controls unobstructed. The available reports do not validate a specific case or show that one will prevent damage.

The reports and product specifications do not establish a reliable way to diagnose which layer is marked or a home method to repair an existing scratch. If you have visible damage, ask Samsung support to assess the watch rather than applying an unverified remedy. These sources do not establish whether a particular repair or warranty claim would be covered.
