What the DUG Purist Typ 1 offers
DUG lists the 40 mm Purist Typ 1, reference P1NS-LS, at a regular starting price of €1,249 on its official product page. That price is not a universal total: the date and steel bracelet are each listed as €100 options, and the live price can depend on the selected configuration. Check the selected options and checkout total before ordering.
The core specification is substantial for an everyday mechanical watch: a 40 mm three-piece stainless-steel case, 47.5 mm lug-to-lug, and 10.95 mm height. DUG lists a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides, a sapphire caseback, and 100 m / 10 ATM water resistance. Those figures describe the manufacturer’s specifications, not an independent water-resistance test.
Movement and Glashütte decoration
DUG says its DUG 400 automatic caliber is based on the Sellita SW 400. The brand specifies a 40-hour power reserve and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). Fratello identifies the movement in the reviewed watches as the Sellita SW400-1.

The display back reveals decoration that is more distinctive than a plain off-the-shelf movement presentation: DUG describes hand-applied perlage, rhodium-plated bridges and plates, blued screws, and a 24k gold-plated rotor made in Glashütte. These are manufacturer-described finishing details; they do not make the movement an in-house caliber. DUG also says the watch meets the legal criteria for use of the Glashütte designation. That origin and compliance claim is the brand’s representation.
Choosing a size, dial, and configuration
40 mm or 37 mm
The 40 mm model measures 47.5 mm from lug to lug and 10.95 mm thick. For a smaller case, DUG also offers the Purist 37 Typ 1, listed from €1,199 on the brand homepage. Fratello says the 37 mm model has the same basic specifications, though its dial-color palette is more limited. Case preference is personal; the 40 mm dimensions are the more useful starting point if you are deciding how the watch may wear on your wrist.

Typ 1 or Typ 2
Typ 1 uses baton indices, while Typ 2 substitutes Arabic numerals. The current 40 mm Typ 1 product page shows black, white, blue, brown, gray, and burgundy dial choices, along with date and strap or bracelet selections. Availability can change, and Fratello identifies the brown dial as a special edition in its review context. Do not assume every color is currently offered.
Date and strap or bracelet
The date and steel bracelet each add €100 on the official 40 mm product page, so a date-equipped steel-bracelet configuration is €200 above the listed regular base price before any other price changes. The page also offers leather strap configurations and documents 20 mm sizing and a quick-change system. Fratello’s October 7, 2026 article reports a different set of prices: the 40 mm line starts at €1,299, with reviewed examples at €1,349 for Typ 2 and €1,499 for a blue Typ 1 with date and steel bracelet. Those are dated, configuration-specific review prices; for a purchase, use the selected live official listing rather than combining the two price schedules.

What the hands-on review found
Robert-Jan Broer’s Fratello hands-on review, published October 7, 2026, examined the larger 40 mm watches. He noted the textured dial, applied markers, readable hand lengths, visible movement decoration, and a solid, comfortable steel bracelet. His overall assessment was that the quality and features matched the price, with the decorated movement likely to appeal to enthusiasts.
He also pointed out specific compromises: the brushed bracelet end links contrast with the polished case surfaces, creating what he considered a slight mismatch, and he found the tang buckle cheap-looking. Those are one reviewer’s observations, not findings from WatchRanker testing. He also said he might prefer the proportions of the 37 mm version; that is a subjective size preference rather than a performance criticism.

Is the Purist Typ 1 worth its price?
The value proposition is strongest if you want the 40 mm dimensions, sapphire on both sides, 100-meter rating, and a display-back automatic with visible decoration, and you are comfortable with the Sellita basis and stated 40-hour reserve. The watch offers meaningful configuration choices, but the date and bracelet change the final cost, while the independent reviewer’s comments suggest the exterior finishing is not uniformly persuasive at every detail.
DUG presents its watches as direct-from-manufacturer sales and advertises a three-year warranty on its homepage. Before paying, review the actual warranty terms, delivery charges, applicable taxes, current stock, and the selected configuration’s checkout price. The older Horologius review lists a price of about €1,099, but that historical figure is below the newer manufacturer and Fratello prices and should not be treated as current.
