Typ 1 or Typ 2: what changes?
On the 40 mm models, choose between two dial treatments. Typ 1 has baton indices for a spare, unnumbered look; Typ 2 uses Arabic numerals for more explicit hour marking. DUG offers selectable dial colors and configurations with or without a date, as well as leather strap or steel bracelet options. The Typ 2 page also describes a colored date disc and says the no-date version has no unused date position at the crown, which DUG calls “Ghost Date.” That is the manufacturer’s description of the user-facing crown behavior, not a broader claim about the movement’s construction. What the two 40 mm watches share
DUG publishes the same core specifications for both: a three-piece stainless-steel case, double anti-reflective sapphire crystal, sapphire display back, 100 m water resistance, 10.95 mm height and 47.5 mm lug-to-lug. Each uses the DUG 400 automatic movement, based on the Sellita SW 400. DUG states a 40-hour power reserve and 28,800 vibrations per hour, and describes the movement as decorated in Glashütte. The listed strap lug is 20 mm, with leather and steel bracelet configurations. These are manufacturer-published details, not independent measurements or performance tests. On the DUG product pages checked on October 12, 2026, each 40 mm model was listed at €1,249. The date option and stainless-steel bracelet each added €100 to the displayed price. The in-family alternative: Purist 37
If the 40 mm case is larger than you want, DUG lists Purist 37 models from €1,199. The official Typ 1 37 page specifies a 37 mm diameter, 43.9 mm lug-to-lug, 10.35 mm height and 18 mm strap lug. It uses the DUG 200 movement, based on Sellita SW 200, with a stated 40-hour power reserve. The smaller diameter and shorter lug-to-lug make this a clear size alternative on the published measurements; check the specific Typ 2 37 listing before assuming its details match the Typ 1 37. How to compare external alternatives
A useful alternative is not simply another minimalist watch. Match the features that matter to your wrist and routine, then check current official product details. The available specifications do not establish a current, like-for-like named competitor shortlist, so use these criteria to assess candidates rather than treating any one as a verified closest match.

- Fit: Compare both case diameter and lug-to-lug. Diameter alone does not show how far the watch spans across the wrist.
- Dial and legibility: Decide whether baton markers, numerals or another layout suits your reading needs, and check the actual dial variant.
- Movement: Distinguish a movement’s base caliber from brand-specific finishing, assembly and stated power reserve.
- Daily functions: Check date or no-date layout, water resistance and luminous material rather than assuming they are equivalent across minimalist designs.
- Strap and bracelet fit: Confirm the lug width and attachment system for the exact reference. The 40 mm Purists list 20 mm lugs; the Typ 1 37 lists 18 mm.
- Price and support: Compare dated, regional checkout prices and verify availability and warranty terms with the seller or manufacturer.
DUG advertises a three-year warranty on its homepage; confirm the terms applicable to the specific purchase. Its stated brand vision describes a high-quality, affordable watch from Glashütte, but that is the company’s positioning, not an independent assessment of value. DUG homepage.
Bottom line for choosing
Choose Typ 1 if you prefer baton indices and Typ 2 if Arabic numerals are more useful or appealing; their published 40 mm case and movement specifications are otherwise closely matched. Consider the Purist 37 if the more compact published dimensions are a priority. When looking beyond DUG, compare exact references on fit, dial, movement, functions, strap compatibility, dated price and warranty before deciding.
