October 2026 splits into two watch capitals and three kinds of visit: Milan hosts major public exhibitions at the start of the month; Phillips runs auction previews across six cities; and Geneva takes over from 27 October with Sotheby’s Fine Watches and the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) nominee exhibition. The distinction matters: some events are free to enter, some require registration or an appointment, and auction previews are not the auctions themselves.

Milan opens the month with two public-facing events
Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition: 2–18 October
Wallpaper* reports that Patek Philippe’s 14th Watch Art Grand Exhibition occupies 2,900 square metres at CityOval, formerly known as Palazzo delle Scintille. The exhibition presents about 500 wristwatches, table clocks and pocket watches, making it the month’s broadest single-brand opportunity to see historic and contemporary work in one place. The report says admission is free to the public.
The Milan setting shapes the display. Special pieces made for the exhibition use enamelling, engraving, gem-setting, wood marquetry and miniature painting with Italian themes. This is therefore more than a product presentation: visitors can compare decorative techniques and high complications in a museum-like environment without an auction bid or invitation.
#1 Best Overall
The headline launch: Ref. 5978P-010
The exhibition’s principal launch is the platinum Patek Philippe Ref. 5978P-010, limited to 120 pieces. Wallpaper* describes its new calibre as advancing all four perpetual-calendar date windows simultaneously in 30 milliseconds. That mechanism is the technical talking point to look for when the watch is demonstrated, but the limited production figure is the more immediate collecting fact.
Thierry Stern, Patek Philippe’s president, explained the exhibition’s purpose to Wallpaper*: “I think to keep it fresh, you’re always trying to innovate a little bit. Not only the product, but the philosophy of the brand. So you have to add something, and you have to educate people with something concrete. They like to see, they like to touch, you know, so you have to really give them this.”

Milano Watch Week: 2–4 October
Milano Watch Week’s 2026 press release advertises a public event from 2–4 October with prior registration. Unlike the Patek Philippe exhibition, whose reported access is free to the public, Watch Week should be approached as a registration-based event: confirm the current sign-up process, venue instructions and opening hours before arriving.
Phillips previews move through six cities
Phillips’ official October schedule covers previews for three sale series. These dates are opportunities to inspect watches in person; they are not the Geneva auctions, which Phillips lists for 4–8 November.

The Hong Kong Watch Auction: XXIII

The New York Watch Auction: XV

Collectors should identify the sale series before booking a preview because several cities host more than one series in the same week. Ask Phillips whether a viewing needs an appointment, and complete any separate bidding registration if you intend to participate in the subsequent sale. The schedule does not make the November Geneva previews October events, so those 4–8 November dates belong on a later calendar.
Geneva’s late-October handoff to auction and awards season
Sotheby’s Fine Watches: 27 October–10 November
Sotheby’s lists its Fine Watches sale in Geneva from 27 October to 10 November 2026. The public exhibition runs 5–10 November, from 10:00 to 18:00, at Mandarin Oriental, Quai Turrettini 1. The selection includes collectible watches from Patek Philippe, Rolex, Audemars Piguet, Vacheron Constantin and Cartier, as well as independent brands.
The date range describes the sale period, while 5–10 November is the stated exhibition window. Anyone planning to bid should allow time to examine condition, accessories and catalog descriptions in person, then confirm the auction’s registration and bidding rules with Sotheby’s rather than assuming exhibition entry alone permits bidding.

GPHG public exhibition: 30 October–15 November
The 2026 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève preselected watches go on public display at Geneva’s Musée d’art et d’histoire from 30 October through 15 November. The exhibition precedes the 7 November awards ceremony and is listed as open to the public without an invitation or badge. Workshops and guided tours are separate activities and require registration.
Best Value
This is a nominee-focused visit rather than a brand archive or auction inspection. It suits readers who want to compare the watches selected for recognition across categories, while the ceremony itself remains a distinct date inside the exhibition run.

| If you want to… | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Study craftsmanship and historical context | Patek Philippe Watch Art Grand Exhibition | About 500 objects across 2,900 square metres, with decorative arts and Italian-themed special pieces |
| See watches before deciding whether to bid | Phillips or Sotheby’s previews | Preview appointments let you inspect auction lots before the sale; bidding is a separate process |
| Compare the year’s award nominees | GPHG public exhibition | Displays the 2026 preselected watches and does not require an invitation or badge for general entry |
| Attend a broader Milan watch gathering | Milano Watch Week | Public event scheduled for 2–4 October, subject to prior registration |
A practical October itinerary
- Choose Milan or Geneva first. Milan concentrates activity on 2–4 October, while Geneva’s main public and auction program begins at the end of the month and continues into November.
- Separate exhibition entry from auction access. Free public admission, prior registration, preview appointments and bidding registration are different requirements.
- Match the city to the sale series. Phillips’ New York, Singapore and London dates overlap between series, so check the exact auction title before scheduling a viewing.
- Reserve Geneva time for both programs. Sotheby’s exhibition is 5–10 November, and the GPHG exhibition begins on 30 October; they are separate venues and experiences.
- Reconfirm immediately before travel. Opening hours, venues, registration rules and auction consignments are volatile, and no reliable published figure measures total October 2026 attendance across these events.
What is not on the October 2026 fair calendar
Watches and Wonders’ official site is promoting Geneva 2027 and a 30 October LAB deadline. That information does not establish an October 2026 Geneva fair, so it should not be added to this month’s event list.
