Which Hamilton Jazzmaster Performer is the Sporty Black?
The black PVD model is reference H36646780. It is easy to confuse with the visually similar black-dial H36606730, but that is a different, stainless-steel reference. Hamilton’s US page labels H36606730 “Past collection” and “Not available online”; those labels do not establish the current status of H36646780. Check the reference number on a listing before comparing prices or availability. Monochrome Watches identified H36646780 as the black PVD version, while Hamilton’s listing is for H36606730.
What does the Sporty Black look like?
The 42 mm case is stainless steel coated in black PVD, paired with a black-to-charcoal dial and silver-toned details. Blue stitching on the perforated black leather strap echoes the blue accent in the 12-hour chronograph counter. The tachymeter scale, chronograph pushers and exposed date disc reinforce the motorsport-inspired design.
The dial arranges the two chronograph counters at 3 and 6 o’clock, running seconds at 9 o’clock and the date at 4:30. Hamilton/Swatch Group says the indexes use Super-LumiNova X1. The date indication is visible on the dial rather than tucked into a conventional framed window.

The specifications are reported by Monochrome Watches’ January 2025 first look. Hamilton/Swatch Group’s official release also identifies the H-31’s 60-hour reserve and Nivachron balance spring. These are published specifications, not independent accuracy or durability test results.
How the chronograph and tachymeter work
The chronograph is a stopwatch function operated by the case pushers. The tachymeter scale can be used with elapsed time to calculate average speed over a known distance. Hamilton/Swatch Group describes it as measuring average speed between two points based on elapsed time. In practice, the scale is useful only when the distance is known and the timing interval falls within the scale’s range.

What the case dimensions mean on the wrist
At 42 mm across and 15.22 mm thick, this is a substantial chronograph rather than a slim dress watch. Diameter gives only part of the fit picture: thickness also affects how prominently the case sits above the wrist and whether it slides comfortably under a cuff. The cited materials do not give lug-to-lug length, so that measurement cannot be used here to predict how the watch will span a particular wrist.
The 100 m water-resistance rating is a published specification, not a guarantee for a used watch or one with an untested seal. A buyer considering water exposure should check the condition and service history of the specific watch and follow Hamilton’s care guidance.

Current price and availability for H36646780 are not established here. The “Past collection” status on Hamilton’s US page applies to the different H36606730 reference, so it should not be treated as proof that H36646780 is discontinued.
