The Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SPB513 and SPB515 are mechanical countdown-timer watches, not chronographs. Both use Seiko’s Caliber 6R55, share a compact 39.5 mm case and approximately 72-hour power reserve, and differ principally in dial colorway and regional listing. Choose between the grey-white SPB513 and black-grey SPB515 according to your legibility preference and the price and availability in your own market.
What the SPB513 and SPB515 do
Each watch uses an inner rotating countdown scale operated by the crown at 4 o’clock. Seiko describes it as a way to read remaining time, from key intervals in motorsport to ordinary activities such as a cooking or parking limit. It is a countdown tool: rotating the inner scale sets a reference for time left. These models do not provide the elapsed-time stopwatch operation associated with a conventional chronograph.

Seiko frames the case and bracelet styling as an inheritance from its 1972 Speedtimer chronograph. That is the brand’s design description; the SPB513 and SPB515 themselves are the mechanical countdown models in this launch. Seiko’s collection page describes them as “A mechanical model with a countdown timer bearing the name ‘SPEEDTIMER’.” Seiko’s official collection description also lists September 2025 as the availability point, which should not be treated as a current worldwide stock date.
How to use the countdown scale
- Turn the crown at 4 o’clock to rotate the inner countdown scale.
- Align the scale with the minute hand or the interval you want to monitor.
- Read the remaining interval against the moving hand as time passes.
On the SPB513, Seiko says the orange accent on the dial ring is repeated on the seconds hand to support quick visual readings. That is a design intent, not a measured legibility test.

SPB513 versus SPB515: what actually changes
Dial treatment
The official UK boutique identifies the SPB513 as the grey-white contrast version and the SPB515 as the black-grey contrast version. The case, movement and stated dimensions are shared, so the visual choice is primarily between a lighter, higher-contrast palette and a darker, more monochrome one. Neither source establishes a measured legibility advantage.
| Reference | Dial description | Regional example listing |
|---|---|---|
| SPB513J1 | Grey-white contrast | GBP 900 on Seiko’s UK product page |
| SPB515J1 | Black-grey contrast | USD 995 on Seiko’s US product page |
The color descriptions are cross-checked by the UK SPB513 boutique listing and UK SPB515 boutique listing. The example prices come from different watches in different currencies and markets, so they are not a direct value comparison. Check both references through the same regional Seiko site or authorized retailer on the date you intend to buy.

These are manufacturer specifications: Seiko’s SPB513J1 page and SPB515J1 page state the movement, dimensions, accuracy, reserve, crystal and water resistance. They are not independent accuracy, pressure or durability test results. A 20 bar rating is a specification for water resistance, not a recommendation to operate the crown underwater.

- This sports watch inherits the name "SPEEDTIMER," a symbol of Seiko's chronograph development history in the 1960s, and embodies Seiko's DNA for "precise timekeeping." A new product has been released that expresses the worldview of classic motorsports.

How the size may wear
A 39.5 mm diameter and 44.5 mm lug-to-lug length place both watches in a relatively compact modern-sport-watch range. The 12.0 mm thickness and 20 mm lug spacing provide useful planning information for a bracelet or replacement strap, but measurements do not guarantee the same feel on every wrist. Curved lugs, wrist shape, strap construction and end-link geometry affect fit.
Although 20 mm is the nominal lug width, not every 20 mm strap or fitted end link will suit the case. Confirm the attachment design and clearance before ordering accessories.

- A grey-white dial with a stronger light-versus-dark contrast.

- The SPB513’s availability and price in your local market after checking a regional listing.
Choose the SPB515 if you prefer
- A black-grey, lower-key monochrome appearance.
- The same movement, countdown system, case size and water-resistance specification in a darker colorway.
- The SPB515’s local stock and pricing when verified through your market’s Seiko channel.
Buying and availability checks
Reference numbers are the safest way to search: SPB513J1 and SPB515J1. Seiko’s regional pages provide product and retailer pathways, but stock, taxes, delivery terms and prices can vary by country and change over time. The cited UK SPB513 price is GBP 900, while the cited US SPB515 price is USD 995; use them as examples of regional listings, not as an exchange-rate comparison or a conclusion that one model is cheaper.
- Open the Seiko site for your country and search each reference separately.
- Confirm that the page describes the mechanical countdown model, not another Speedtimer variant.
- Check the currency, tax treatment, warranty terms and stated delivery or retailer availability before payment.
- Verify the dial color in photographs and the reference number on the invoice.
What is—and is not—established
The documented case, movement and timing figures come from Seiko. The stated accuracy range of +25 to −15 seconds per day describes the manufacturer’s specification; it does not predict the rate of an individual watch or replace regulation and service advice. No independent hands-on timing, water-pressure or long-term durability test is established for this first look, so performance beyond Seiko’s published specifications should be treated as unverified.
