The Louis Moinet Starman is a large, limited-edition mechanical watch built around genuine meteorite material, a luminous star map and a one-minute flying tourbillon. Its “extraterrestrial” character is literal: the dial combines a Gibeon meteorite base with a fragment identified as Jbilet Winselwan meteorite. That material story sits alongside an elaborate planetary display on the caseback, a manually wound movement and a precious-metal case.
What is the Louis Moinet Starman?
Starman is a high-end mechanical watch in Louis Moinet’s meteorite collection. The official collection lists red-gold and white-gold versions, each in an edition of 12, as well as a separate hand-engraved white-gold unique piece. Louis Moinet describes the design in brand language as “a watch that might have been named by the stars themselves”; the more concrete distinction is its combination of meteorite, celestial imagery and tourbillon display.
The specifications below are reported by Monochrome Watches in its 2024 coverage; they are not the result of a hands-on test for this article. The brand’s current collection listing is the source for the editions and references.
What makes the Starman extraterrestrial?
The dial uses a blue-tinted Gibeon meteorite base. Near 12 o’clock, it includes a separate fragment identified as Jbilet Winselwan meteorite. A sapphire disc above the base carries hand-painted, luminous stars and constellations. Faceted, skeletonized hands are also described as luminous.

Monochrome’s 2024 article says the Jbilet Winselwan fragment is described as showing traces of amino acids. That is a reported property of the meteorite, not evidence that extraterrestrial life has been found; the watch makes no such demonstration.
How does the dial and tourbillon work?
The principal moving display is a one-minute flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock. Its cage also serves as the seconds display, combining a regulating mechanism with a visible indication of elapsed seconds. The star field and luminous elements provide the celestial theme, while the tourbillon gives the dial its most prominent mechanical feature.

What is on the caseback?
The exhibition caseback reveals a miniature planetary display. Monochrome reports that its arrangement represents the planets as they appeared on March 21, 2013. At launch, buyers could request customization of the planetary map for a personally significant date. The 2024 report quoted CHF 166,000 for the version with this customization, compared with CHF 160,000 excluding tax for the red-gold watch without it.

These figures are Monochrome Watches’ 2024 reported specifications. The 47.4 mm case makes Starman a substantial watch; its 30 m water-resistance rating is modest, so it should not be treated as a watch for swimming or diving.

How many Starman watches were made?
Louis Moinet’s official collection lists the 18K red-gold reference LM-139.50.25 and 18K white-gold reference LM-139.70.20 in limited editions of 12 each. It also lists LM-139.71.22, a hand-engraved white-gold unique piece. These are distinct listings: the unique piece is not one of the two twelve-watch editions.
How much does the Louis Moinet Starman cost?
There is no price here that can be treated as a verified current quote. Monochrome reported launch-period prices in 2024 of CHF 160,000 excluding taxes for the red-gold version and CHF 166,000 with planetary-map customization. Gunderson’s Jewelers displayed $200,000 for the red-gold LM-139.50.25 when its listing was accessed on October 8, 2026; the page does not establish confirmed stock. Check with Louis Moinet or a specialist dealer for current price and availability.
Who is the Starman for?
Starman’s strongest appeal is to a collector who values unusual materials and visual storytelling as much as conventional timekeeping. The meteorite dial, celestial artwork and planetary caseback make it an especially themed design; the tourbillon and precious-metal construction add traditional high-watchmaking cues.
