The Fitbit Versa 4 is best understood as a fitness-first smartwatch: it covers everyday activity, sleep and GPS-tracked workouts, then adds a useful selection of phone-connected conveniences. Its built-in GPS and advertised multi-day battery life are appealing, but its limited app ecosystem and lack of native music playback make it less capable as a general-purpose smartwatch or serious training watch.
Is the Fitbit Versa 4 worth it?
It can be a good fit if your priorities are routine activity tracking, sleep insights, heart-rate monitoring and workouts recorded with built-in GPS. Google lists more than 40 exercise modes, and the watch can automatically detect some activities. It also offers notifications, Maps, Wallet, Alexa and Bluetooth calls when paired with a nearby phone, subject to setup and availability.
It is a weaker choice if you want a broad selection of watch apps, offline music listening, advanced workout analysis or the wider set of health sensors found on Fitbit’s Sense line. TechRadar’s 2026 buying guide likewise positions it more for everyday tracking than advanced training or feature-heavy smartwatch use. Think of it as a capable daily fitness watch with a few smart extras, not a small phone or a specialist training instrument.
Is Fitbit Versa 4 good for fitness?
Everyday activity, sleep and heart rate
The Versa 4 tracks activity, heart rate and sleep, and estimates blood oxygen saturation during sleep. Google support also describes exercise auto-detection, heart-rate notifications, stress scoring and sleep scores. These are wellness measurements and estimates, not medical diagnoses.

Core tracking should be distinguished from paid insights: Google Health Premium is required for certain expanded sleep metrics and readiness features, but the subscription is not a prerequisite for the watch’s basic activity and sleep tracking. GPS and workouts
Built-in GPS lets you record an outdoor workout without carrying your phone. The trade-off is battery use: continuous built-in GPS has a much shorter stated runtime than ordinary smartwatch use. For advanced training plans or detailed performance analysis, compare the Versa 4 with a training-focused watch and look closely at workout analytics, GPS behavior and the health sensors each model includes.

These are Google’s advertised figures and support estimates, not independent comparative laboratory measurements. Screen settings, GPS use and other settings affect real-world battery life. If you regularly record long GPS sessions or keep the display always on, plan around the lower use-specific guidance rather than assuming the headline 6+ days.
Can you use apps or listen to music on the Fitbit Versa 4?
The Versa 4 has selected smart features, not a broad third-party app ecosystem. Google lists Maps, Wallet, Alexa, phone notifications and Bluetooth calls; calls require the phone to be nearby, and feature availability can depend on location, phone and setup. Alexa availability varies by location.

It does not provide native music listening or offline playback. A later software update added YouTube Music controls, but these control music on a nearby paired phone and require a YouTube Premium or YouTube Music Premium subscription. That is different from storing music on the watch and listening independently. Android Authority’s review reported no third-party apps, Wi-Fi access, Google Assistant or music playback/controls in its test period; the later YouTube Music update means its music-controls observation should not be treated as the current feature set.
Will the Versa 4 work with your phone?
Google’s US specifications list iOS 16.4 or later and Android 11 or later for setup. Those are the stated setup requirements, not a guarantee that every feature behaves identically across phones or regions. Check the current Google specifications and support information for your location before buying, especially if you rely on a particular assistant, payment feature or phone-connected function.

What should you compare before buying?
- Against a full smartwatch: compare third-party app availability, music playback, notification replies and how much the watch can do without your phone.
- Against a training watch: compare workout analytics, GPS-session battery behavior and the range of health sensors rather than relying on exercise-mode count alone.
- Against another Fitbit: the Sense 2 adds health sensors beyond the Versa 4’s fitness tracking and phone-connected conveniences. Also compare form factor, screen size, subscription-dependent insights and battery behavior. Google’s historical lineup comparison described the Charge 6 as a tracker with Maps and Wallet; check current models and prices rather than relying on an older lineup snapshot.
