The U4-A, reference UWK-U4-A, is a limited-edition, time-only automatic watch made in Italy. UNIMATIC says the first batch comprised 500 pieces. That figure describes the initial batch, not the number currently available or the condition of watches on the secondary market.
Its design combines a vintage-style black dial with pale-green Super-LumiNova C3 markers, off-white dial trim and a second rail, phantom ladder hour and minute hands, and a reverse-lollipop seconds hand with an off-white tip. How large is the U4-A, and what are its specifications?
UNIMATIC specifies a 40 mm case and 22 mm drilled lugs. The manufacturer’s page does not give a U4-A-specific lug-to-lug measurement, so the case diameter alone cannot tell you how broadly it will sit across your wrist. If fit is a deciding factor, ask for a lug-to-lug measurement for the exact reference rather than borrowing dimensions from another Modello Quattro.

Specifications in the table are from UNIMATIC’s U4-A listing. They describe the manufacturer’s stated design and performance, not independent measurements. In particular, the accuracy range is not a promise that every example will run within that range over time.
What does the design and movement mean in everyday use?
A restrained military-style dial
The dial keeps to a dark base, pale markers and contrasting hands, with the second rail and trim adding an off-white accent. The ladder-style hands and reverse-lollipop seconds hand are distinctive details without changing the watch’s time-only function. The product listing identifies the markers as C3 Super-LumiNova, but there is no independent observation here of brightness, duration or legibility after dark.

An automatic NH35A with a stated 41-hour reserve
The listed Seiko NH35A is an automatic mechanical movement with hacking seconds, bidirectional winding and a stated 41-hour power reserve. Hacking seconds allow the seconds hand to stop when the crown is pulled for setting. UNIMATIC specifies a rate of 21,600 beats per hour and an accuracy range of −20/+40 seconds per day. Those are manufacturer claims, not timing results from a tested U4-A sample.
A 22 mm strap fitting
The 22 mm drilled lugs and supplied olive-drab NATO make the strap arrangement part of the watch’s military-style presentation. A different 22 mm strap may be an option, but width alone does not guarantee clearance: check its thickness and hardware against the case and spring bars.

Is the U4-A a dive watch?
It has a manufacturer-stated 300 m water-resistance rating (30 ATM), and UNIMATIC says each watch is individually tested. That is a substantial stated rating, but the fixed bezel is not a conventional rotating dive-timing bezel. The U4-A is best described from its listed features as a military-style, time-only watch with high stated water resistance, not as a conventional dive watch.
The rating is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independent pressure-test result. It also does not establish the present water resistance of a used example: condition, service history and seal integrity matter. Anyone considering swimming or diving with a secondhand watch should have its water resistance checked rather than relying solely on the original specification.

What did it cost, and can you buy one now?
When checked on 5 October 2026, UNIMATIC’s product page displayed a price of 520€ with tax and duties included and marked the U4-A sold out. The page does not establish when that displayed price was set, and it is not an available offer or a guide to current resale value. The first batch was listed as 500 pieces; that does not indicate present stock or how many examples remain in circulation. Check the official product page for any change in availability.
For historical context only, Time and Watches reported a December 2020 launch price of 425 euros plus sales taxes. UNIMATIC’s listing says the watch comes in a shockproof, two-slot tough case with a warranty card and unique ID seal. It also lists a 24-month worldwide warranty, estimated shipping in 2–4 business days and a 14-day return window. Because the product is marked sold out, treat those as listing terms rather than a confirmed offer for a watch you can purchase now; verify the terms and seller directly if stock reappears or you find a third-party listing.
Is the Unimatic U4-A worth buying?
It is worth considering if you want a compact-diameter, time-only automatic with a distinctive instrument-style dial, a standard 22 mm strap fitting and a high manufacturer-stated water-resistance rating. Its fixed bezel and straightforward time-only layout make it a different proposition from a watch designed for rotating-bezel dive timing.
The practical decision depends on the exact example and obtainable price. Confirm its condition, service history, included kit, seller credibility and—if water use matters—current pressure-test status. The available product information does not establish a current official offer, a resale value, or firsthand wearing and performance results, so it cannot support a blanket value verdict.
