Watch writer Jorg Weppelink selected the five models below in Fratello’s August 23, 2024 article. The list is an editorial selection, not an independently measured ranking of the entire Citizen catalog. Fratello itself noted that five watches could not represent all the options.

All figures in the table are those reported by Fratello in 2024; they should not be read as current regional retail prices or as independently verified specifications. The article describes the NY012x as ISO 6425-compliant, but that claim is attributed to Fratello and has not been independently confirmed here.
Which NY012x dial and configuration did Fratello feature?
The Promaster Mechanical Diver NY012x is the list’s lower-priced automatic diver. Fratello named four references with different dial colors: NY0120-01EE in black/gray gradient, NY0129-58LE in blue gradient, NY0121-09XE in green and NY0120-01ZE in orange. Its cited strap and bracelet prices apply to the configurations described in the article; confirm the exact reference and included bracelet or strap before comparing a live listing.

What separates the Tsuyosa and Super Titanium Day-Date?
Tsuyosa NJ0150: automatic and bracelet-led
The regular NJ0150 Tsuyosa is the straightforward choice among these picks if you want a mechanical movement and an integrated-bracelet design rather than a diver or travel complication. Fratello reported an average accuracy of approximately ±20 seconds per day for its caliber 8210; that is a source-stated average, not a guarantee for every individual watch.
Super Titanium Eco-Drive Day-Date: light-powered and slimmer
This model trades an automatic movement for light-powered quartz, with day-date functionality. Its stated full-charge run time is 240 days, and the reported accuracy is ±15 seconds per month. The slimmer 9.8 mm case and titanium construction distinguish it from the steel Tsuyosa, while the integrated bracelet is a shared design feature.

When does the Series 8 GMT make sense?
The Series 8 is the selection to consider if a GMT function is the priority. Fratello described two stainless-steel variants with automatic caliber 9054 and a 50-hour power reserve. It also mentioned a gold-tone limited edition of 1,300 pieces, which the article said was sold out at publication. That 2024 status does not establish present-day availability or whether an individual example can be found on the secondary market.

NY012x: the more affordable, larger-wearing option in the list
Its 50 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the longest stated here, and Fratello’s 2024 prices were lower than those of the Fujitsubo. The listed references vary by dial color and strap or bracelet configuration, so the model family alone is not enough to identify the exact watch being offered.

Fujitsubo: titanium case and magnetic resistance figure
The Fujitsubo combines a Super Titanium case with the 9051 automatic movement. Fratello reported resistance to magnetic fields up to 16,000 A/m. Its two cited configurations pair a black dial with a rubber strap and a blue dial with a bracelet; the historical prices differed by €100.

Fratello reported that three of the five picks were priced below €500: the NY012x, Tsuyosa and Super Titanium Eco-Drive Day-Date. Those are historical figures from the article, not a current market survey. Prices, stock, regional variants and even the lineup may have changed since August 2024. Check the exact reference, local availability and current seller price before making a purchase decision.

The most useful way to compare these picks is by the job you want the watch to do: choose between an automatic diver, an everyday automatic, a light-powered day-date or a GMT, then weigh case material, dimensions and bracelet or strap preference. Fratello’s selection offers a cross-section of those categories, rather than evidence that one is objectively the best Citizen for every wearer.
