Garmin’s Enduro 3 has much longer published runtimes than Apple Watch Ultra 3 in several GPS modes. Garmin rates the Enduro 3 for up to 120 hours in GPS-only mode, while Apple rates Ultra 3 for up to 20 hours of continuous outdoor workout tracking with full GPS and heart-rate readings in Low Power Mode. Those are manufacturer estimates from different test conditions—not results of a controlled head-to-head test. For ordinary smartwatch use, Garmin lists up to 36 days and Apple up to 42 hours, but the usage assumptions differ too.
This comparison uses the Garmin Enduro 3 and Apple Watch Ultra 3. It does not apply automatically to other Garmin models or earlier Ultra generations.

| Enduro 3 mode | Garmin’s estimate | Solar estimate and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| GPS-only | Up to 120 hours, typical use | Up to 320 hours; Garmin’s GPS solar estimate assumes outdoor use in 50,000 lux |
| All satellite systems | Up to 80 hours, typical use | Up to 144 hours; outdoor use in 50,000 lux |
| All satellite systems plus multi-band | Up to 60 hours, typical use | Up to 90 hours; outdoor use in 50,000 lux and typical use with SatIQ technology |
| All satellite systems with music | Up to 22 hours, typical use | Not stated in Garmin’s battery table |
| Max battery GPS | Up to 210 hours, typical use | Unlimited; Garmin’s GPS solar estimate assumes outdoor use in 50,000 lux |
| Expedition GPS | Up to 77 days, typical use | Unlimited; Garmin’s GPS solar estimate assumes outdoor use in 50,000 lux |
“Up to” figures are estimates, not guaranteed durations. Garmin says actual battery life depends on enabled features such as wrist-based heart rate, phone notifications, GPS, internal sensors, and connected sensors. Satellite settings, music, and other active features therefore matter when estimating a particular outing. See the Garmin Enduro 3 Owner’s Manual battery information.

Is Garmin Enduro battery life longer than Apple Watch Ultra?
For the specific models here, the published figures show a substantial difference in Garmin’s favor for long GPS activities and smartwatch-mode runtime. However, the figures are not directly interchangeable: Garmin reports multiple GPS configurations, while Apple’s most relevant long-workout figure is for Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings. Neither manufacturer’s estimate is a controlled comparison against the other watch.
Everyday smartwatch use
| Watch and mode | Published battery estimate | What the estimate represents |
|---|---|---|
| Garmin Enduro 3, smartwatch mode | Up to 36 days typical use | Garmin’s estimate; actual duration depends on enabled features |
| Apple Watch Ultra 3, normal use | Up to 42 hours | Apple’s scenario includes 600 time checks, 180 notifications, 30 minutes of app use, a 60-minute Bluetooth-music workout, and six hours of sleep tracking across 42 hours. It includes eight hours of cellular connection and 34 hours connected to iPhone by Bluetooth. |
These scenarios describe different patterns of use, so the 36-day and 42-hour figures should not be read as a laboratory comparison of equivalent activity. Apple’s technical specifications report tests using preproduction Ultra 3 watches paired with iPhone in July and August 2025, with prerelease software. Apple notes results vary with use, configuration, cellular network, signal strength, and other factors. See Apple Watch Ultra 3 technical specifications.
Long GPS workout
Apple lists up to 20 hours of outdoor workout tracking in Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings. Against that, Garmin’s Enduro 3 estimates range from up to 120 hours in GPS-only mode to up to 60 hours with all satellite systems plus multi-band; Garmin also lists up to 22 hours with all satellite systems and music. The modes are not identical, but the figures indicate why the Enduro 3 is the more endurance-oriented choice for long GPS outings on published battery specifications. Apple announced its workout figure in September 2025; it remains a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test. Details are in Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra 3 announcement.

Low Power Mode is not the same as a full-GPS workout
Apple rates Ultra 3 for up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode for a general-use scenario. That scenario includes 900 time checks, 270 notifications, 45 minutes of app use, two 60-minute workouts with Bluetooth music, and 18 hours of sleep tracking over 72 hours. It uses on-demand cellular and 60 hours of iPhone Bluetooth connection. It is not a claim of 72 hours of continuous full-GPS workout tracking; Apple lists up to 20 hours for that distinct use.
Does solar charging make the Garmin Enduro last longer?
Yes, Garmin publishes longer estimates when solar conditions apply, but the figures assume substantial outdoor light—not ordinary indoor charging. For smartwatch mode, Garmin lists up to 36 days in typical use and up to 90 days with solar, assuming all-day wear and three hours per day outdoors in 50,000 lux. For GPS use, Garmin’s solar estimates assume outdoor use in 50,000 lux. The multi-band solar estimate additionally assumes typical use with SatIQ technology.
Garmin also lists battery saver watch mode at up to 92 days in typical use or unlimited with solar, and expedition GPS mode at up to 77 days typical use or unlimited with solar. “Unlimited” is conditional on the specified solar-use assumptions; it is not a promise that the watch will run indefinitely in everyday conditions. These estimates are documented in the Enduro 3 Owner’s Manual.

How long does Apple Watch Ultra 3 last during a GPS workout?
Apple’s published figure is up to 20 hours of continuous outdoor workout tracking in Low Power Mode while retaining full GPS and heart-rate readings. Apple’s separate up-to-42-hour normal-use and up-to-72-hour Low Power Mode estimates describe mixed-use scenarios, not continuous GPS recording. Actual results can vary with configuration, cellular network, signal strength, use, and other factors, as Apple notes in its technical specifications.

Apple’s stated maximum for continuous outdoor workout tracking with full GPS and heart-rate readings in Low Power Mode is up to 20 hours. Whether that covers a particular event depends on its expected duration and the watch’s actual battery performance; Apple says results vary. The available specification does not establish a universal finish-time guarantee. Garmin’s Enduro 3 has longer published GPS-mode estimates, but actual runtime on either watch depends on settings and conditions.
Quick Recap
Which battery comparison matters for your use?
- For daily wear: compare Garmin’s up-to-36-day smartwatch-mode estimate with Apple’s up-to-42-hour normal-use scenario, while bearing in mind that their assumed feature use differs.
- For a long GPS activity: check the Enduro 3 estimate for the satellite mode you intend to use. GPS-only, all satellite systems, and multi-band have different listed runtimes; Apple’s up-to-20-hour figure is specifically for Low Power Mode with full GPS and heart-rate readings.
- If you play music while tracking: Garmin lists up to 22 hours for all satellite systems with music. Apple’s normal-use and Low Power Mode scenarios include Bluetooth-music workouts, but they are mixed-use estimates rather than continuous GPS-and-music runtime claims.
- If you expect solar help: use Garmin’s solar estimate only as a conditional figure tied to its 50,000-lux assumptions. Your exposure may differ substantially.
- If you rely on cellular or phone connectivity: account for the connection pattern in Apple’s scenario and for Garmin’s enabled features; these published maximums are not guarantees for every setup.
