Both cover the core outdoor and training needs, including built-in maps and multiband GPS. The comparison is between the Enduro line’s current model, Enduro 3, and the fēnix 8 family—not one Enduro versus one uniform fēnix specification.
Enduro 3 vs. fēnix 8 at a glance
| Your priority | Better place to start | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum advertised battery endurance | Enduro 3 | Garmin lists up to 36 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 90 days with solar under specified light and wear assumptions. |
| AMOLED or a choice of case size | fēnix 8 | The family includes multiple sizes and selected AMOLED models; Enduro 3 has one size in Garmin’s comparison and a transflective MIP display. |
| Solar charging, with a particular fēnix size | Compare exact models | Both lines offer solar configurations, but battery estimates vary by fēnix size and display. Compare the specific models and modes you would actually wear. |
| Mapping, GPS training, and outdoor tools | Either | Garmin lists both with built-in mapping, multiband GPS, music storage, an LED flashlight, training readiness, and a 10 ATM water rating in the compared products. |
| Voice-based calling | Check the fēnix 8 variant | Garmin lists voice-based calls and texts for the compared fēnix 8 models, but not Enduro 3. Verify the exact configuration and phone-pairing requirements. |
Which has better battery life?
On Garmin’s advertised figures, Enduro 3 is the endurance choice against the fēnix 8 AMOLED configurations shown in the comparison. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent tests, and the numbers depend on whether the watch is in smartwatch or GPS mode, which GPS settings are used, and—in solar estimates—light exposure.

Smartwatch mode
Garmin lists Enduro 3 at up to 36 days in smartwatch mode and up to 90 days with solar. The 90-day estimate assumes all-day wear and three hours outdoors per day at 50,000 lux. For the fēnix 8 47 mm AMOLED, Garmin lists up to 16 days in smartwatch mode, or up to 7 days with the always-on display enabled. These figures describe different display configurations and should not be read as guaranteed everyday runtimes.

GPS activity modes
GPS estimates also depend on the selected tracking mode. Garmin lists Enduro 3 at up to 120 hours GPS-only, 80 hours all-satellite, and 60 hours all-satellite plus multiband. For the fēnix 8 47 mm AMOLED, the corresponding figures are up to 28, 23, and 21 hours. Solar-assisted estimates depend on stated light conditions; do not reduce these distinct modes to a single GPS-battery figure.

Solar fēnix models are a separate comparison
The fēnix 8 family includes solar models, so the Enduro 3’s solar estimate is not a like-for-like comparison with every fēnix. Garmin lists the 51 mm fēnix 8 Solar at up to 30 days in smartwatch mode, or 48 days with solar; the 47 mm Solar model is listed at up to 21 days, or 28 with solar. Those differences make the exact size and display variant important when comparing endurance.
What do the displays and sizes change?
Enduro 3 uses a sunlight-visible transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display. The fēnix 8 range offers multiple sizes and display configurations, including AMOLED and MIP solar models. If you prefer AMOLED or need to consider a smaller case, the fēnix family gives you more configurations to evaluate; check the specification for the exact model rather than assuming every fēnix 8 has the same screen or battery life.
Garmin lists touchscreen controls and a 10 ATM water rating for the products in its comparison. Those shared specifications do not establish which watch will feel more comfortable on a particular wrist; the cited product information does not provide an independent comfort or durability comparison.

Which features are shared, and what differs?
Garmin’s comparison gives both watches a substantial outdoor-training foundation: built-in maps, multiband GPS, music storage, Garmin Pay, an LED flashlight, training readiness, training status, recovery time, daily suggested workouts, HRV status, Pulse Ox, and the ECG app. Garmin’s US athlete comparison also describes both lines as offering built-in GPS and sports apps.
The clearest listed distinction for a feature-led buyer is voice-based calls and texts: Garmin lists them for the compared fēnix 8 models, but not Enduro 3. Confirm availability and requirements for your specific fēnix variant and paired phone before treating that as a deciding feature.

Which Garmin is better for an ultramarathon?
For an event where minimizing charging is the main priority, Enduro 3 is the more direct choice based on Garmin’s advertised endurance figures. If you want an AMOLED screen or a different case size, consider the specific fēnix 8 that meets those preferences and compare its battery estimate in the GPS mode you plan to use. Both lines include multiband GPS, mapping, and training features, so the choice is not simply between an outdoor watch and a less capable one.
