Choose the Garmin epix Pro (Gen 2) if you want an AMOLED screen; choose the fēnix 7 Pro if you prefer a transflective display and want the option of solar charging. Both families offer substantial multisport and mapping features, so the better buy depends on the exact case size and edition—not a universal feature advantage.
What separates the epix Pro and fēnix 7 Pro?
The clearest everyday difference is the display. The epix Pro (Gen 2) uses AMOLED, while the fēnix 7 Pro uses a sunlight-visible transflective MIP display. Which looks better or is easier to read depends on viewing conditions and personal preference; neither is universally more readable. Garmin’s official comparison lists both families with a broad mix of multisport and navigation capabilities.

Solar charging is an edition-specific option in the fēnix 7 Pro family. Garmin lists Solar and Sapphire Solar configurations; do not assume that every fēnix bundle has the same lens, maps, connectivity or price. The cited comparison does not list solar charging for the epix Pro.

How do their battery estimates compare?
For the 47 mm examples in Garmin’s comparison, the manufacturer estimates up to 16 days of smartwatch battery life for the epix Pro, or up to 6 days with its always-on display enabled. For the fēnix 7 Pro, Garmin estimates up to 18 days; the Solar edition is listed at up to 22 days with solar charging. These are Garmin estimates, not independent runtime measurements or guaranteed results. Settings, features in use and solar exposure affect battery life.

Use these figures as a comparison of the cited 47 mm configurations, not as a promise for every size or edition. If battery life is a deciding factor, check the specification for the precise watch you intend to buy and consider how you will use its display and other functions.
Which features do both families offer?
Garmin’s cited comparison lists mapping, multi-band GPS, music storage, Garmin Pay, training readiness and training status, an ECG app, and an LED flashlight among the capabilities of the Pro watches shown. The families therefore overlap on many of the features that matter for multisport use. Confirm the exact product row and configuration before treating a feature as included with a specific watch.

A connectivity exception for one fēnix configuration
Garmin’s fēnix 7 Pro Solar (No Wi-Fi) variant is a specific exception, not a description of every fēnix 7 Pro Solar model. Garmin says this variant does not include Wi-Fi; music cannot be downloaded from Spotify, Deezer or Amazon Music accounts, ECG is not included, and maps must be downloaded using Garmin Express rather than Wi-Fi. Check the exact variant name and specification if these functions matter.
How should you choose a case size?
Both product families include 42, 47 and 51 mm configurations. Match the case to your wrist and comfort preferences rather than assuming that specifications for one size apply across the range. For example, Garmin’s 42 mm epix Pro Sapphire specifications list a 1.2-inch display, a 10 ATM rating and a 20 mm QuickFit band; those details should not be transferred to the 47 or 51 mm models.
Rank #3
- Ultimate high-performance smartwatch features a 1.2” always-on, stunning AMOLED display and a scratch-resistant sapphire lens with a steel or titanium bezel designed for smaller wrists
- Built-in LED flashlight with variable intensities and strobe modes gives you greater awareness while you train at night and provides convenient illumination when you need it
- New hill score feature measures your running strength and endurance during ascents and gauges your progress over time
- New endurance score feature combines training data from all your athletic pursuits to help you understand how training impacts your overall endurance

Garmin’s 42 mm epix Pro specifications are useful for checking that particular configuration. For other sizes, verify the corresponding product specifications and band compatibility.
