The COROS PACE 4 Pro is the lighter, less expensive watch with longer advertised battery life; the Garmin Forerunner 970 adds training analysis, smartwatch features, navigation tools and a built-in flashlight. Both offer advanced satellite tracking, optical heart-rate monitoring and mapping. The right choice depends less on a headline GPS or battery number than on which GPS mode you use and which training and navigation features you need.

Which watch has longer battery life?
The PACE 4 Pro has the longer advertised endurance in the figures available here, but its GPS estimate changes substantially with mode and display settings. Garmin’s 15-day figure is for smartwatch mode, not GPS activity recording, so it should not be compared directly with COROS’s GPS-hour estimates.

These are manufacturer estimates and a review-reported figure, not a matched battery test. Actual runtime can vary with enabled features; the Forerunner 970 owner’s manual notes that Garmin battery life depends on features in use. COROS says maps, music and other enabled features can reduce runtime on its US product page.

GPS and heart-rate accuracy: what can be concluded?
On paper, both watches provide advanced satellite tracking and wrist-based optical heart-rate monitoring: COROS lists dual-frequency GPS and optical heart rate for the PACE 4 Pro, while Garmin lists multi-band GPS and wrist-based heart rate for the Forerunner 970. Those specifications describe capabilities, not which watch records more accurate tracks or heart-rate data in a particular workout.
The sources available for this comparison do not establish a controlled, matched-route and matched-workout accuracy winner. A fair accuracy verdict would need the same route and conditions, comparable settings, and a reference device for GPS and heart rate. If accuracy is your deciding factor, treat both as capable on specifications alone and look for testing that reports those conditions rather than relying on frequency-band labels.

Training features: choose the workflow you will use
Garmin Forerunner 970
Garmin lists training readiness and training status, alongside music storage, Garmin Pay, an ECG app and a built-in LED flashlight in its product comparison. Tom’s Guide characterizes the Garmin as offering broader training analysis and additional smart and navigation features in its October 9, 2026 head-to-head review. These are a better fit if you want readiness/status indicators and the listed extras in the watch you wear day to day.

COROS PACE 4 Pro
COROS lists effort pace, training load, recovery and fatigue metrics, race prediction, running fitness, training plans and workouts, as well as route-building tools, in its PACE 4 Pro specifications. It also supports Bluetooth accessories, according to its US product page. This is not an absence of training analysis: compare the specific metrics and planning approach you want to use rather than treating the choice as “training features” versus none.

Both watches list mapping. COROS specifies downloadable global landscape and topographic maps and turn-by-turn features on its specifications page. Garmin lists built-in mapping in its product comparison, and Tom’s Guide’s review favors Garmin for more extensive navigation tools. That review-level judgment does not establish that Garmin has better map coverage or routing in every country, so check the maps and route functions you need for your usual locations.

Tom’s Guide’s October 9, 2026 comparison similarly frames COROS as a value choice for buyers who do not need Garmin’s additional features, and Garmin as the more feature-rich option: read the review. The specifications do not support a definitive GPS or optical heart-rate accuracy winner.
