Announced on January 13, 2026, and available from January 16, the 47 mm watch adds two-way messaging, interactive SOS, location sharing and other connected features to Garmin’s marine, navigation, fitness and diving platform.
Garmin rates it for up to 15 days in smartwatch mode, but that is not a rating for continuous offshore tracking. The headline “up to 80 km offshore” claim is also a conditional coverage specification—not a guaranteed connection at every location within that distance.

What is the Garmin quatix 8 Pro?
The quatix 8 Pro is a premium 47 mm marine GPS smartwatch built around Garmin’s existing quatix ecosystem, with one major hardware difference: integrated inReach technology for LTE and satellite connectivity. It is not simply a standard quatix 8 with a software update.

The watch has a 1.4-inch AMOLED display, titanium bezel, sapphire lens, built-in speaker and microphone, LED flashlight, Garmin Pay and a 10 ATM water rating. Garmin’s owner’s manual also gives it a 4 ATM dive rating under the stated conditions. It supports marine navigation, chartplotter integration, boat data, health and fitness tracking, diving features and a wide range of outdoor activities.
#1 Best Overall
- Nautical smartwatch features a 1.4" stunning AMOLED display with a titanium bezel and built-in LED flashlight
- Built-in inReach technology for two-way satellite and LTE connectivity (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply, e.g., satellite coverage up to 50 miles offshore; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
- Boat mode brings your vessel-connected apps to the forefront that let you control your autopilot and give you access to trolling motor and other boat data — so you can easily take command from your smartwatch
- Keep your focus on the water, and control your compatible chartplotter via Bluetooth connectivity with voice commands
- Enjoy comprehensive connectivity and remote control capabilities with select compatible Garmin chartplotters, autopilots, Force trolling motors, Fusion stereos and more
Its marine functions can include waypoint and navigation tools, tide alerts, anchor-drag alerts, tack assist, race-start guidance and regatta timers. When paired with compatible Garmin equipment, it can also interact with chartplotters, autopilots, trolling motors and Fusion entertainment systems.

What does “80 km offshore connectivity” mean?
This is the most important qualification. Garmin’s European materials describe the quatix 8 Pro as offering connectivity up to 80 km offshore, while U.S. materials use the equivalent approximation of up to 50 miles offshore.
Garmin says the watch can use satellite connectivity outside normal cellular coverage, but the distance is not a guaranteed operating radius. Actual service depends on supported regional coverage, an active subscription, sky visibility, satellite access and the watch’s orientation. Garmin uses geostationary satellites, so obstructions—including parts of a boat, nearby terrain or a restricted view of the sky—can affect communication.
In practical terms, the claim means:
- LTE may work where a supported cellular network is available.
- Satellite connectivity is intended for supported off-grid locations.
- Being within 80 km of shore does not guarantee a satellite connection.
- The watch is not advertised as providing unlimited communication at any distance offshore.
- Local laws may restrict or prohibit satellite-communications devices.
Garmin’s own coverage page should be checked for the relevant country and service area before relying on the watch on a particular route: Garmin quatix 8 Pro coverage information.

What can it do without a smartphone?
With an active subscription and suitable coverage, the Pro can use its own LTE or satellite connection for:
- Two-way messaging
- Interactive SOS messaging
- Location check-ins
- LiveTrack location sharing over LTE
- Weather updates through satellite connectivity
- Voice calling or voice-related communication over LTE
- Emergency coordination through Garmin Response
That does not mean every watch function works independently. Some marine voice features, including certain chartplotter voice controls, require Bluetooth and a compatible Garmin chartplotter. Availability also varies by country, connection type, plan and network conditions.
An SOS feature is a communications and coordination tool, not a guarantee of rescue, response time or successful message delivery. It should complement—not automatically replace—a boat’s appropriate emergency equipment, including marine communications and other safety devices suited to the voyage.

Battery life: 15 days is the best-case smartwatch figure
Garmin rates the 47 mm quatix 8 Pro for up to 15 days in smartwatch mode using its gesture-display assumptions. With the always-on display enabled, the rating drops to up to eight days. That difference alone shows why the headline number should not be treated as an offshore-use estimate.

- Multisport GPS smartwatch with built-in inReach technology for two-way satellite and LTE connectivity (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
- Rugged design with a bright 1.4" AMOLED touchscreen display, titanium bezel, scratch-resistant sapphire lens and other premium materials
- In an emergency, inReach satellite technology allows you to trigger an interactive SOS message to the Garmin ResponseSM coordination center for 24/7 assistance (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
- LTE network connectivity lets you leave your phone behind; use your watch to exchange messages and make voice calls — plus let friends follow along with LiveTrack location sharing (30-second update rate) and location check-ins with the on-device Garmin Messenger app (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply)
- inReach technology allows you to send messages and get location check-ins over satellite when taking on an off-grid adventure (active subscription required; coverage limitations may apply; some jurisdictions regulate or prohibit the use of satellite communication devices)
| Mode | Maximum stated battery life |
|---|---|
| Smartwatch mode, gesture display | Up to 15 days |
| Smartwatch mode, always-on display | Up to 8 days |
| Battery Saver Watch mode | Up to 19 days |
| GPS-only mode, gesture display | Up to 44 hours |
| GPS-only mode, always-on display | Up to 33 hours |
| All-satellite-systems mode | Up to 34 hours |
| Multi-band satellite mode | Up to 30 hours |
| Multi-band GPS plus LTE LiveTrack | Up to 12 hours |
| Multi-band GPS plus LTE LiveTrack and music | Up to 8 hours |
| Expedition GPS mode | Up to 14 days |
GPS tracking, LTE LiveTrack, satellite communication, music, multi-band positioning, poor signal conditions, temperature and display settings can all reduce endurance. The correct interpretation is therefore “up to 15 days as a smartwatch,” not “15 days of continuous offshore tracking.”

Marine controls depend on Garmin equipment
The quatix 8 Pro’s full value appears on a Garmin-equipped boat. Depending on the equipment and connection method, it can provide or control:
- Chartplotter functions
- Autopilot controls
- Force trolling-motor controls
- Fusion entertainment systems
- Depth, speed, heading and wind data
- Tide and anchor-drag alerts
- Navigation, waypoints and race features
These are ecosystem features, not evidence that the watch replaces a chartplotter. Compatibility varies by hardware, and some functions require Bluetooth or a compatible chartplotter. Owners of boats built around another marine-electronics brand may receive the health, fitness, GPS and communication benefits but lose much of the Pro’s integrated marine-control advantage.

Subscription and coverage requirements
The watch’s $1,299.99 hardware price does not include unlimited LTE or satellite service. The inReach connectivity features require an active subscription. Plan pricing and terms can change, and Garmin’s current service or checkout pages should be used to confirm the cost for the buyer’s country.
Coverage is also not universal. LTE depends on supported countries and local network conditions; satellite features depend on regional availability and visibility to the satellite. Buyers should verify both the plan and country eligibility before purchasing, especially if the watch will be used internationally.

The standard quatix 8 launched in June 2025 in 47 mm and 51 mm sizes. It offers much of the same marine, navigation, health and fitness ecosystem, but does not include the Pro’s built-in LTE and satellite inReach communications.
| Feature | quatix 8 | quatix 8 Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Marine GPS functions | Yes | Yes |
| Chartplotter and boat controls | With compatible equipment | With compatible equipment |

| Launch price | $1,199.99 for 47 mm; $1,299.99 for 51 mm | $1,299.99 |
The standard 47 mm model is rated for one additional day of smartwatch battery life. That is a useful reminder that the Pro’s premium is primarily paying for integrated communications hardware and service capability—not a larger battery or longer endurance.

Who should buy the quatix 8 Pro?
It is a strong fit for:
- Sailors, anglers and offshore boaters who regularly leave cellular range.
- Garmin boat owners who want watch-based access to chartplotter, autopilot or trolling-motor features.
- Users who want messaging and an SOS function integrated into a watch rather than carrying a separate inReach communicator.
- Buyers who value Garmin’s marine and fitness platforms and accept a recurring connectivity subscription.
It is a poor fit for:
- Casual boaters who remain within reliable cellular coverage.
- People unwilling to pay for an ongoing LTE and satellite plan.
- Owners of boats that do not use compatible Garmin marine equipment.
- Buyers who want the longest possible quatix battery life.
- Anyone expecting guaranteed satellite coverage or rescue at 80 km offshore.
- Users who primarily want a general-purpose smartwatch and will not use its marine controls.
- People needing continuous offshore tracking for long passages without planning around sharply reduced battery life.
Price and availability
Garmin announced the quatix 8 Pro at a U.S. suggested retail price of $1,299.99. Garmin’s European listing showed a 47 mm price of €1,299.99, but regional pricing, taxes, availability and service eligibility vary.
The watch went on sale January 16, 2026. Shipping estimates are volatile, so buyers should confirm current availability on Garmin’s product page. The recurring connectivity subscription is an additional ownership cost.
Verdict
The Garmin quatix 8 Pro makes sense when its communication hardware solves a real problem: staying in touch, sharing a position or initiating an SOS when a phone’s cellular connection is unavailable. It is especially compelling for Garmin-equipped boats and users who want one wrist-worn device for marine controls, navigation, fitness and inReach functions.

For boaters who already carry a separate communicator—or rarely leave cellular coverage—the standard quatix 8 may deliver nearly the same marine experience for less money and with slightly better headline battery life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Garmin quatix 8 Pro work anywhere 80 km offshore?
No. Garmin’s 80 km—or approximately 50-mile—figure is a conditional coverage specification. Service depends on supported regional coverage, an active subscription, satellite visibility and local conditions.
Does the quatix 8 Pro include an inReach subscription?
No. LTE and satellite inReach features require an active subscription in addition to the watch purchase.
Can the quatix 8 Pro replace a marine VHF or emergency beacon?
It should not automatically be treated as a replacement. Emergency communication depends on service, coverage, visibility and successful message delivery, so appropriate boat safety equipment remains important.
