The SBGM245 pairs a deep blue dial with a red GMT hand, while the SBGM247 combines a subdued green dial with an orange GMT hand. Both are Sport Collection automatic GMT watches powered by Caliber 9S66.
What is the difference between the SBGM245 and SBGM247?
On the official specifications available for these models, the key distinction is visual rather than mechanical. Grand Seiko describes both watches as designed for legibility, with a distinctive color for the GMT hand. The SBGM245 has a deep blue dial and red GMT hand; the SBGM247 has a subdued green dial and orange GMT hand. See Grand Seiko’s Sport Collection information and its SBGM245 product page.

The listed dimensions and weight come from Grand Seiko’s regional product pages: SBGM245 on Grand Seiko Boutique Online Japan and SBGM247 on Grand Seiko Japan. The reviewed pages do not establish a launch or first-sale date, so “new” should not be read here as a verified release-date claim.
How does the GMT function work?
Caliber 9S66 includes a 24-hour hand for displaying a second time zone. Its calendar-linked time-difference adjustment lets the local hour hand move without stopping the minutes or seconds, so the watch can be adjusted for a time-zone change while those indications continue. Grand Seiko describes this function on its Caliber 9S66 movement page and the SBGM247 product page.

The movement specifications also list 35 jewels, a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), a date display, and hacking seconds. Those features are shared by both watches because they use the same caliber.
What are their stated accuracy and power reserve?
Grand Seiko lists an approximately 72-hour power reserve for Caliber 9S66. It gives a mean daily rate of +5 to -3 seconds per day under controlled testing of the uncased movement in six positions. That figure describes the manufacturer’s test conditions, not a guaranteed daily result on an individual wrist. The same movement page lists normal-use accuracy as +10 to -1 seconds per day and notes that actual wearing results can vary with conditions.

For context, Grand Seiko’s US price-adjustment notice dated October 31, 2024 set a USD 5,800 MSRP effective November 1, 2024. That historical figure has since been superseded by the higher USD 6,100 listing on the current US pages. Check the relevant local listing for the latest price and availability.
Which one should you choose?
Choose based on the color combination you prefer and how the 40.5 mm case and 14.4 mm thickness suit your wrist. The SBGM245’s blue-and-red contrast and the SBGM247’s green-and-orange combination distinguish them visually; the official specifications reviewed do not show a corresponding difference in movement or core functionality.
