The STERNGLAS Tachymeter 2.0 keeps the original’s racing-chronograph concept but makes it larger and more colorful, adds an aluminum bezel insert, and replaces the Miyota OS20 with a Seiko TMI VK63 mecha-quartz movement. Whether it is an improvement depends on the trade-off you prefer: a more elaborate 44 mm watch, or the original’s more restrained instrument look.
What changed from the original Tachymeter?
STERNGLAS introduced the Tachymeter 2.0 in 2025, replacing the original after a three-year production run. The most consequential mechanical change is the move from the Miyota OS20 to the Seiko TMI VK63 mecha-quartz chronograph. The redesign also adds a more colorful multi-register dial and swaps the original’s brushed-steel external bezel for a colored aluminum insert. Michael Stockton’s Fratello hands-on review describes thicker lugs, pump-style pushers and a signed crown, and judges the update to look more upscale. That is the reviewer’s assessment, rather than an objective measure of quality.

Specifications are listed on the official black model page and official blue model page; Fratello supplies the scoped thickness measurement. STERNGLAS describes a rally engraving and a multi-layer dial, but those are product-design details, not independent durability findings.
How the tachymeter works
The tachymeter scale is used with the chronograph to estimate average speed over a known distance. STERNGLAS’s example uses a one-kilometer interval:

- Stop it at the next kilometer marker.
- Read the average speed from the tachymeter scale at the chronograph hand’s position.
This is an estimate for the measured interval, not a continuous speed reading.
Fit, straps and bracelet
The 44 mm diameter and 50 mm lug-to-lug measurement are useful starting points when judging fit; the 20 mm lug width determines the nominal strap width. STERNGLAS also specifies a quick-change system. A nominally 20 mm third-party strap is not guaranteed to fit correctly, so check its end shape and attachment clearance before buying.

The brand’s 20 mm Tachymeter 2.0 metal bracelet is a separate 316L steel accessory, listed at €89 when accessed on October 8, 2026. STERNGLAS says it is compatible only with the Tachymeter 2.0; it should not be treated as a universal bracelet for every 20 mm watch.
Price and availability
Prices depend on date and configuration. In its February 18, 2025 launch review, Fratello reported €389 with a strap and €449 with a beads-of-rice bracelet, plus a two-year warranty. The STERNGLAS black listing displayed €449 for its bracelet configuration on October 8, 2026. These are not like-for-like current prices: the launch figures are historical, and the official listing is a dated snapshot. Tax treatment, regional offers, stock and configuration can change.

Stockton called the launch price “a competitive price for a meca-quartz chronograph, especially one as nicely crafted as the Sternglas.” That is his favorable value judgment in the February 2025 review, not a market-wide price ranking.
Who is the Tachymeter 2.0 for?
- Consider it if you want a sporty chronograph with a prominent tachymeter scale, a colorful multi-register dial and a mecha-quartz movement.
- Think carefully about fit if you prefer compact watches: 44 mm across and 50 mm lug-to-lug are substantial dimensions, even before considering the lugs.
- Compare it with the original if you value the earlier model’s more restrained instrument styling or want to weigh the original Miyota OS20 against the new Seiko TMI VK63.
- Check the exact configuration before purchase, since strap and bracelet versions have different prices and the dedicated bracelet is sold separately on the current accessory page.
Battery guidance
STERNGLAS says its batteries typically last between two and five years and recommends having replacement handled by a jeweler or watchmaker. This is the manufacturer’s general guidance, not an independently verified VK63-specific battery-life test.
