The blue-gradient Mido Ocean Star Tribute Special Edition, reference M026.807.11.041.01, pairs a 40.5 mm steel case with a 200 m water-resistance rating, an automatic day-date movement rated for up to 80 hours of power reserve, and two straps: a mesh bracelet and blue rubber. Fratello’s July 2023 hands-on review found it comfortable on a 17 cm wrist, while noting that its 21 mm lug width and some case and bracelet details may not suit everyone.
What makes this the Special Edition?
This is the blue-gradient-dial reference M026.807.11.041.01, not the separate black- and blue-dial M026.830 special editions listed in Mido’s 2023 catalogue. Mido currently identifies the M026.807.11.041.01 as a special edition supplied with an extra strap. The Ocean Star line dates to 1944; Mido describes the Tribute as a reinterpretation of the 1960s collection’s diving-watch design.
The dial is the defining visual detail. Fratello reviewer Daan de Groot described its appearance as a matte, milky blue gradient rather than a bright sunburst, with a matching blue bezel. He found the result muted and cohesive. The watch has a domed sapphire crystal, stainless-steel case and day-date display.
How does it wear?
Mido lists a 40.5 mm case diameter, 13.4 mm average thickness and 21 mm lug width. Fratello reports a 47 mm lug-to-lug measurement. De Groot, whose wrist measures 17 cm, said the watch wore comfortably despite his usual preference for cases under 40 mm. That is one reviewer’s experience; wrist shape and personal fit preferences still matter.

- Movement: The MIDO Caliber 80 represents a major advance in self-winding movements. Thanks to its new-generation technology, it offers up to 80 hours of power reserve
- Case Type: Stainless steel - Capable of withstanding pressures of up to 20 bar (200 m/660 ft), and equipped with a screw-down crown
- Case Size: 40.5mm - Case Thickness: 13.4mm - Black Dial with Day,Date Calendar - Black Bezel - Crystal: Sapphire crystal
- Band Type: 11-Link Stainless Steel Bracelet with folding clasp and diving extension - Extra Black Fabric included - Band Width: 21mm
The polished case and crown guards were among the less appealing details for de Groot. He also found the bezel action snappy, but the bezel difficult to grip because it felt slippery. Those are subjective impressions from the review, not laboratory assessments.
What straps are included, and what does 21 mm mean?
Fratello’s 2023 review sample came with a stainless-steel mesh bracelet and a blue Tropic-style rubber strap. Both used quick-release bars. De Groot preferred the rubber strap for summer. He found the mesh bracelet wearable but bulky at first, and described its clasp as finicky to adjust and close, though secure once shut.

The 21 mm lug width is less common than 20 mm, so check a replacement strap’s stated width and spring-bar arrangement before buying. Do not assume a standard 20 mm strap will fit properly. The quick-release setup described for the supplied straps does not establish that every aftermarket strap will use the same attachment system.
What are the movement and water-resistance specifications?
| Specification | What is documented |
|---|---|
| Movement and functions | Mido lists an automatic movement with day and date and up to 80 hours of power reserve. Fratello reports 21,600 vibrations per hour and 23 jewels for the reviewed version. |
| Water resistance | Mido specifies 20 bar / 200 m and a screw-down crown. |
| Crystal and case | Mido specifies sapphire crystal and 316L stainless steel; Fratello describes the crystal as domed. |
| Warranty | Mido lists a two-year warranty. |
The 200 m rating is a water-resistance specification, not proof of ISO 6425 certification. A reader asked about certification in the review’s comments, but the cited product details do not establish that the watch is ISO 6425 certified. If certification is a requirement for your use, ask Mido or an authorized retailer for explicit documentation.

What did it cost, and is it worth considering?
Fratello listed the watch at €1,110 when its review appeared on July 24, 2023. Mido’s US product-page search result showed $1,360 and out of stock when retrieved on October 8, 2026. These are different markets and dates, not prices to compare as if they were simultaneous; the search result is not a live stock check. Confirm the current price, availability, exact reference and included straps with a local authorized retailer.
The case dimensions, 200 m rating and long stated power reserve make the watch a plausible option for someone seeking a versatile, vintage-inspired diver-style watch with day and date. Its appeal will depend heavily on the restrained gradient dial and the wearer’s comfort with the 21 mm strap size. The hands-on review offers useful impressions, but does not provide a controlled comparison with other watches or an independent timing test.
