A warmer take on the Chronoking formula
The Black Amber’s defining feature is color temperature. The foundation is a restrained matte-black dial, but terracotta-red gradient accents and the amber-toned bezel prevent it from reading as another monochrome sports watch. Recessed subdials, applied luminous indexes and a tachymeter bezel preserve the visual language of a vintage racing chronograph.

Nivada describes the model as “A Warm Vintage Racing Look.” Its official description calls it a design that “channels the energy of vintage motorsport with a matte black dial, warm terracotta-red gradient accents and a black racing strap.” That is manufacturer language, but it accurately explains the watch’s role: a familiar black chronograph made more distinctive through controlled warmth rather than bright color.

At 38mm wide and 46.5mm from lug to lug, the Chronoking sits in the compact vintage-chronograph range. The 13.40mm thickness gives it noticeable presence, especially with the domed crystal, but the short lug-to-lug measurement should keep it manageable on many wrists. Diameter alone does not determine comfort: the lug span, case curvature and strap flexibility matter just as much.

The 20mm lug width is useful beyond the supplied accessories. It is a common size with a broad third-party market, so owners can experiment with leather, rubber, fabric or additional racing-style straps without needing a proprietary fit.
How the VK63 meca-quartz movement changes daily use
The watch uses TMI’s VK63 meca-quartz chronograph. Quartz regulation handles everyday timekeeping, while the chronograph module is designed to provide a more mechanical-feeling start, stop and reset action than a conventional simple quartz chronograph.

Nivada states approximately ±20 seconds per month accuracy and around three years of battery life. Those figures are manufacturer claims, not results from an independent timing or laboratory test. Actual performance can vary with battery condition, temperature and use.
- Convenience: quartz regulation avoids the regular winding and daily power-reserve management associated with a fully mechanical chronograph.
- Chronograph feel: the meca-quartz architecture aims for a sharper, mechanically styled actuation and reset.
- Maintenance profile: a battery replacement is eventually required, but the owner is not taking on the same servicing routine as a fully mechanical chronograph.
Interchangeable bezel and two starting configurations
The tachymeter bezel is interchangeable, which gives the Black Amber more flexibility than a fixed-color watch. Nivada says the bezel can be removed with your fingers and replaced in seconds without tools. That lets an owner alter the watch’s visual emphasis at home rather than buying another complete watch for a different color treatment.

Nivada lists the Chronoking Black Amber with either a black racing strap or a beads-of-rice bracelet configuration. The strap version reinforces the motorsport theme and keeps the watch visually light; the beads-of-rice option adds a more substantial, vintage-jewelry character. Because both use the same 20mm lug width, switching to other straps is also uncomplicated.
Crystal, case and water-use considerations
The double-domed sapphire crystal offers strong scratch resistance for daily wear and contributes to the period-inspired profile. The case and solid 316L steel caseback provide a conventional durable foundation.

Nivada rates the watch at 10 ATM water resistance. That supports ordinary daily exposure and recreational water use when the crown, pushers and seals are in good condition, but 10 ATM should not be treated as a blanket guarantee for every type of diving, high-impact water sport or underwater activity. Follow the manufacturer’s limitations and have water resistance checked after relevant service.
Where it fits in a collection
The Black Amber makes the most sense for a collector whose current watches lean toward silver, black, blue or other cool tones. The terracotta and amber elements introduce warmth while retaining a restrained base, so the color is easier to coordinate with casual clothing than a fully saturated dial.

Related Chronoking coverage from Fratello Watches and Hodinkee discussed interchangeable bezels and cited a US$579 strap price in launch-era contexts. Those references concern related Chronoking models and are historical; they do not establish a current Black Amber price or current availability. Check Nivada’s current listing and regional retailers before buying, because both stock and pricing can change.
What is established—and what is not
The published specifications establish the dimensions, materials, movement, stated accuracy, battery estimate, crystal, water-resistance rating and accessory configurations. No independent timing study or laboratory test was identified for this specific model, so the ±20-seconds-per-month figure should be read as Nivada’s stated expectation rather than a verified performance result.
For a buyer seeking a compact racing chronograph with a warmer palette, easy strap sourcing and low-effort quartz ownership, the Black Amber is a coherent option. Its main trade-off is deliberate: it offers mechanical-style chronograph interaction without the winding ritual and service profile of a fully mechanical movement.
