The CIGA Design Moon Walker replaces conventional hands with a tiny astronaut moving across a sculpted lunar dial. It is an automatic mechanical watch built around an imaginative display, not a watch designed for instant time checks: in a hands-on review, Dave Sergeant of Fratello said reading it became second nature, but it was not immediately legible. If you prize originality and storytelling over glanceable timekeeping, that trade-off is the point.
How the astronaut tells time
The Moon Walker uses a miniature astronaut as its time indicator instead of conventional hands. The figure travels over the lunar surface, with its position showing the time. This is an unusual way to display hours and minutes, not a moonphase complication.
CIGA Design says the dial draws on NASA imagery and includes tiny details such as Armstrong’s footprint, Apollo 11 coordinates, and the landing time, viewable under 10× magnification. The imagery and manufacturing descriptions are the brand’s claims. The design commemorates the Apollo 11 lunar landing; it is not an officially endorsed NASA instrument.
What it is like to read and wear
Legibility takes practice
In a hands-on review published September 22, 2025, Fratello reviewer Dave Sergeant wrote, “This isn’t a read-at-a-glance tool watch.” He said the display became easier to read with use, but it was not instantly legible. The review was based on a hands-on opportunity arranged by CIGA, and the assessment is the reviewer’s impression rather than a universal guarantee.

That makes the Moon Walker a poor match if you need to read the time quickly throughout the day. Its appeal is the interaction: you look at the astronaut and interpret its position, rather than immediately recognizing familiar hands.
The dimensions and wrist fit
Fratello’s 2025 specification list gives the lugless titanium case a 46 mm diameter and length, with a thickness of 17.05 mm including the domed crystal. Sergeant reported that the rounded case wore more compactly than those measurements suggest and felt comfortable. That is a useful impression, not a fit guarantee: wrist size and personal preference still matter, especially with the watch’s 46 mm span and substantial central thickness.

The same page says returns are accepted within 15 days after receipt. - Consider it if: you want an unusual mechanical display, enjoy Apollo 11-inspired design, and are happy to spend time interpreting the dial.
- Think twice if: quick, conventional legibility is essential, your wrist or preferences make a 46 mm watch uncomfortable, or you want a watch primarily for water activities.
The Moon Walker’s strongest case is its distinctive concept and sculptural presentation. Its compromises are equally clear: the display asks for attention, the case is large and thick on paper, and the listed price is substantial. It makes most sense as a design-led conversation piece for someone who actively wants that experience, rather than as a straightforward everyday timekeeping tool.
