The return kept the original case and field-watch concept but introduced a refreshed dial layout and three desert-inspired versions: Karakum, White Sands, and Rub’ Al Khali. Each was announced as a serialized limited edition of 300 pieces.
What “making a comeback” means
BOLDR announced the Expedition I’s return on 4 March 2022, with availability beginning 10 March. The company said the original model had been discontinued after its 2018 run sold out. The returning watch retained that model’s case while gaining a new dial layout; BOLDR also offered an integrated stainless-steel bracelet as an add-on for Expedition I models, including the 2018 versions. BOLDR’s 2022 announcement describes the relaunch and bracelet option.
This is a return of the Expedition I, not a new version of the Expedition II. In its March 2022 coverage, Fratello distinguishes the Expedition II, released in 2019, by its different case design and hands. The new Expedition I’s dial has a central crosshair and an internal compass bezel, as Fratello describes it. Fratello’s hands-on article provides that contemporary design comparison.
What the three colorways share
Karakum and White Sands have the same core specifications in their official listings. BOLDR’s Rub’ Al Khali listing gives the same headline case dimensions, water resistance, and movement; its defining variation is a fully lumed dial. The official listings describe these figures as product specifications, not independent test results.

How to choose between Karakum, White Sands, and Rub’ Al Khali
Karakum
Karakum pairs its dial treatment with a green canvas strap. Choose it if that combination suits your wardrobe and intended use; its official specifications match the shared 41 mm case and automatic movement described above. See BOLDR’s Karakum listing for the variant’s current dial and lume details.
White Sands
White Sands is supplied on a black canvas strap. The official listing is presented in an Australia locale, so its displayed price should not be compared directly with prices shown on other regional pages. Its case and movement specifications match Karakum’s. See the White Sands listing for its variant details.
Rub’ Al Khali
Rub’ Al Khali is the full-lume option identified in BOLDR’s listing. That makes its dial treatment the clearest distinction when choosing among the three. Check the Rub’ Al Khali listing for the current product details and availability.
Fit, movement, and strap considerations
Case fit
The listed 41 mm diameter gives only part of the fit picture. The 46 mm lug-to-lug measurement helps indicate how far the watch spans across the wrist, while the 14 mm thickness affects how high it sits. Comparing those dimensions with a watch you already wear is more useful than relying on diameter alone. These are manufacturer-listed measurements, not independent measurements.
Rank #2
- 24-Hour Field Watch: The Venture WF Khaki features a reliable automatic movement, ensuring precision and a self-winding mechanism for consistent performance, housed in an aesthetic case inspired by classic explorers' timepieces.
- Rugged Titanium Case: Featuring a lightweight 38mm titanium case, this men’s wrist watch balances durability and comfort, making it perfect for daily wear and demanding outdoor activities.
- Water Resistant: Designed for extreme conditions, this dive watch offers 200m water resistance, ideal for hiking, diving, and other outdoor adventures without compromising its sleek look.
- Enhanced Comfort & Visibility: Designed with custom Japan Superlume hands and dial, this field watch offers excellent readability in low-light conditions, while the durable nylon strap and titanium buckles ensure lasting comfort throughout the day.
- Built for Tough Terrain: The scratch-resistant flat sapphire crystal, screw-down crown, and robust titanium case make this watch exceptionally durable, built to withstand the harshest conditions while maintaining its stylish edge.
Automatic movement
The Karakum and White Sands listings specify a Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement with hacking seconds, a 38-hour power reserve, and a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour. An automatic watch runs from movement rather than a battery, and hacking seconds let the seconds hand stop when setting the time. The published specifications do not establish independently measured accuracy.
Canvas or bracelet
Karakum and White Sands are listed with canvas straps, in green and black respectively. The 20 mm lug width is useful if you want to explore replacement straps; confirm the attachment and fit of any strap you buy. BOLDR also announced an optional custom integrated stainless-steel bracelet for Expedition I models, including the 2018 versions. The announcement does not establish that the bracelet is currently available.
What the hands-on review found—and did not establish
Fratello’s Nacho Conde Garzón reported wearing one of the three returning versions for a week and wrote that it required no time adjustment during that period. That is one reviewer’s observation, not a controlled accuracy test or a guarantee for every watch. The available evidence does not independently verify timing accuracy, water resistance, or long-term durability.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteChecking price and availability
When checked for the cited coverage, BOLDR’s Rub’ Al Khali page displayed $699 and an add-to-cart option. That is a time-sensitive store observation, not a guaranteed current price or proof of stock in every region. The White Sands page uses an Australia locale and displayed a different amount excluding VAT, so the two figures are not like-for-like. Check the relevant regional listing for current price, stock, shipping, warranty, and return terms before ordering.
