High-end integrated-bracelet sports watches make a strong case for slimness: a thinner case can preserve the flowing profile that makes this design appealing. The specifications show that some leading examples are notably thin, though they do not prove that every watch should be—or feel best—at the same thickness.
Why slimness suits an integrated-bracelet sports watch
In this design, the bracelet flows directly into the case rather than meeting it as a separate visual element. A slim case can keep that transition looking continuous and give the watch a lower profile beneath a cuff. Patek Philippe describes the Nautilus bracelet as integrated with a case that is “robust, yet slender and aesthetic”—the manufacturer’s characterization of its own design, not a rule for the category. Patek Philippe’s Nautilus 50th Anniversary collection page sets out that design language.
The argument is also an aesthetic preference, not an established technical standard. Fratello has made the editorial case that Haute Horlogerie integrated-bracelet sports watches deserve to be slim; that position supports a discussion, but does not establish an ideal thickness or universal comfort threshold. Fratello’s article is opinion, not evidence of consensus.
How the published thicknesses compare
Manufacturer specifications for selected current references illustrate the range. The watches differ in size, material, movement and features, so the numbers are comparisons of these particular references—not a ranking of entire collections.

| Watch | Case diameter | Published thickness | Other relevant specifications |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patek Philippe Nautilus 5810/1G-001 | 41 mm | 6.9 mm | White gold; self-winding Caliber 240, 2.53 mm high; minimum 48-hour power reserve; 30 m water resistance. |
| Patek Philippe Nautilus 5610/1P-001 | 38 mm | 6.9 mm | Platinum; self-winding Caliber 240, 2.53 mm high; minimum 48-hour power reserve; 30 m water resistance; limited edition of 2,000 pieces. |
| Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42 mm 81010-11-634-11A | Not stated on the cited product specification | 10.68 mm | The brand describes the Laureato as an integrated-bracelet sports watch. |
| Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding 15510ST.OO.1320ST.09 | 41 mm | 10.5 mm | Stainless steel. |
The figures are manufacturer-published specifications accessed on October 8, 2026. Product pages and availability can change; they should not be read as specifications for every Nautilus, Laureato or Royal Oak. The two Nautilus examples are 6.9 mm thick despite differing in diameter and precious-metal case material. The selected Laureato and Royal Oak are thicker at 10.68 mm and 10.5 mm respectively, but that difference alone says nothing conclusive about comfort or quality.
What thickness can—and cannot—tell you
Thickness is a useful way to compare the visual and physical profile of watches, but it is only one dimension of fit. Diameter, the shape of the case and bracelet, and how the watch sits on a particular wrist all influence its presence. The specifications above do not include comparative wear testing, so they cannot establish which reference feels most comfortable.

Thinness also sits alongside functional trade-offs. The 5810/1G-001 and 5610/1P-001 pair their 6.9 mm cases with the 2.53 mm-high Caliber 240 and a stated minimum 48-hour power reserve; both list 30 m water resistance. These are facts about those two Nautilus references, not a general verdict on the practical use of all slim sports watches. Consider the specifications of the exact reference against the activities and features you want.
How to choose the right profile
- Choose for the silhouette you want. If a low, close-to-the-wrist profile is central to the appeal, thickness deserves a prominent place in your comparison.
- Compare exact references, not collection reputations. Case dimensions and features vary between models, even within a named line.
- Balance profile with function. Check the individual watch’s water resistance, movement and complications rather than assuming a thin case implies any particular capability.
- Assess fit on your wrist. Published dimensions are a starting point; they do not replace trying the watch or evaluating how its case and bracelet sit on you.
Does every high-end integrated sports watch need to be slim?
No universal ideal has been established. The case for slimness is strongest as a design preference: a restrained case profile can complement the integrated-bracelet form. The cited specifications show that the Nautilus can achieve 6.9 mm in two different sizes, while other prominent examples are thicker. Whether that trade-off is desirable depends on the particular watch and the wearer’s priorities.
