Rolex already makes a titanium watch: the 42 mm Yacht-Master 42 RLX Titanium, reference 226627. The real question is whether the brand should bring titanium to more models. I would welcome the choice, especially for people who want a lighter watch, but not at the cost of losing the distinct designs and finishes that make each Rolex model what it is.
What titanium Rolex makes now
Rolex calls its material RLX titanium, a specially selected grade 5 titanium alloy. The current titanium model identified in Rolex’s official material is the 42 mm Yacht-Master 42, reference 226627. The Yacht-Master collection also comes in 37 mm and 40 mm sizes, but the cited titanium watch is the 42 mm model.
Rolex describes RLX titanium as lighter than steel, robust, mechanically strong and particularly corrosion resistant. Those are the manufacturer’s claims, not the results of an independent comparison. Rolex summarizes its rationale this way: “This is the RLX titanium, an alloy we use for its strength and lightness.” (Rolex’s RLX titanium materials page.)
Why more titanium could be appealing
A lighter feel
Weight is the most straightforward reason to want more titanium options. Rolex says RLX titanium is lighter than steel, which may appeal if you prefer a watch that feels less substantial on the wrist. Whether that difference feels better is personal; the official material does not establish how owners experience it.

A different look
Titanium gives the Yacht-Master a darker, distinct appearance. That makes it a meaningful design choice, not simply a lighter substitute for steel. If you want a Rolex with a different visual character as well as a different material, the current example makes the case for titanium on its own terms.
Why Rolex may not expand it everywhere
Rolex says RLX titanium’s high mechanical strength makes it complex to work. The company says adopting it required special production processes and in-house finishing operations. That is a real manufacturing consideration, even if it does not tell us what broader use would cost or whether Rolex plans to expand the range. As Rolex puts it on the product page, “Its high mechanical strength makes it complex to work with, and the decision to use it has required the introduction of special production processes.” (Yacht-Master 42 RLX titanium product page.)

Finishing also matters to the decision. Titanium’s look is part of this watch’s identity; using it on other models would not automatically improve them. The useful question is whether a particular model’s design, size and intended wear suit titanium, rather than whether every Rolex should be made from it.
What the current Yacht-Master tells you—and what it does not
The 226627 is a 42 mm watch, so it cannot answer the question for someone who wants a smaller titanium Rolex. Rolex’s Yacht-Master collection page lists 37 mm, 40 mm and 42 mm sizes and several material options, while its cited titanium model is the 42 mm reference. The watch is specified as waterproof to 100 metres. Rolex also says its titanium bracelet has ceramic inserts around the pins to help prevent premature wear and enhance flexibility. These design and specification details describe this model; they do not establish how a titanium version of another Rolex would look or perform. (Rolex Yacht-Master collection page.)

- Consider the 226627 if you want the 42 mm Yacht-Master’s darker titanium look and are comfortable with that size.
- Wait for broader options if your interest is specifically in a smaller Rolex or in titanium on another model; the cited official pages do not identify those versions.
- Decide based on the particular watch if your priority is a lighter feel. The material’s stated advantages do not prove that every model would be better in titanium.
Verdict: more choice, not titanium everywhere
Yes, I would like to see Rolex offer titanium in more models, selectively. The Yacht-Master 42 shows that Rolex has brought RLX titanium into its lineup, while the company’s own explanation makes clear that working and finishing the alloy takes special processes. More choice could suit people who want a lighter-feeling watch or a darker material appearance. It is not a case for replacing steel across the range: the best answer depends on the model, its size and the design Rolex wants to preserve. The available official information does not establish buyer demand, long-term scratch performance, owner satisfaction or plans for additional titanium models.
