The Seiko Prospex SPB097J1 pairs a reinterpretation of Seiko’s 1968 diver with a gray-blue dial and restrained orange accents. It is a special-edition take on a familiar tool-watch design: the color gives it its character, while the documented specification remains firmly that of a 200 m automatic diver.
What is the Seiko Prospex Twilight Blue SPB097J1?
Seiko Hungary identifies the SPB097J1 as the “Twilight Blue Special Edition.” Seiko describes its dial as gray-blue, with an orange seconds hand intended to evoke the sea at sunset. Those are Seiko’s regional product descriptions, not measured color specifications. Seiko Hungary’s product page presents the model as a special-edition design.
Fratello reported the watch in May 2019 as a special edition for Europe and the US, based on a modern reinterpretation of Seiko’s 1968 diver. Writer Michael Stockton found the underlying diver appealing and the orange accents restrained; that is his editorial opinion, not a test result or a consensus verdict. Fratello’s 2019 coverage also places it alongside the regular-production blue-dial SPB083J1. The distinction established there is chiefly the SPB097J1’s special-edition status and Twilight Blue color treatment, rather than a different movement or case concept.
What are its specifications?
Seiko’s Italian product page lists the following specifications. Accuracy is the manufacturer’s stated range, not a result of independent timing tests. Seiko Italy’s SPB097J1 listing also displays €1,200, a regional page price rather than evidence of a universal transaction price.

How should you read the dimensions?
The case is substantial on paper: 44 mm across and 51 mm from lug to lug in both Seiko Italy’s listing and Fratello’s May 2019 specification list. Thickness differs: Seiko Italy lists 12.7 mm, while Fratello lists 13.1 mm. The available sources do not establish which figure is a corrected measurement, so neither should be treated as a definitive physical measurement of every example.
There is a further regional-listing discrepancy: Seiko Hungary lists 43 mm diameter and 11.3 mm thickness. That is a separate published specification, not proof that the watch’s physical dimensions differ by region. If fit is decisive, try the specific watch on rather than relying on a single web listing.

- STAINLESS STEEL CASE built to endure with style, making this watch your perfect daily companion
- AUTOMATIC MOVEMENT for seamless precision in every tick of this watch
- SCRATCH-RESISTANT CRYSTAL to maintain a pristine look even with daily wear and tear on your watch
- LUMINESCENT HANDS for effortless readability in low-light conditions, ensuring you never miss a moment with this watch
- WATER RESISTANT DESIGN ensuring your watch is ready for any adventure, rain or shine
What came with the watch?
Fratello reported a coated steel bracelet and an additional black silicone strap in the package it described. Seiko Italy specifies a 20 mm lug width, which is useful when looking at replacement straps, but width alone does not confirm attachment compatibility or fit. Check the exact watch and strap connection before ordering an aftermarket option.
What does the price tell you now?
Fratello reported a €1,200 price in 2019. Seiko Italy’s product page displays €1,200 in its regional presentation as observed October 8, 2026. Neither figure establishes the current resale value, a current street price, stock availability, or a price that applies in every country. The reviewed sources do not establish current inventory or market transaction prices.

Who is the SPB097J1 for?
The appeal is specific: a 1968-diver-derived Seiko design with a less conventional gray-blue and orange palette, rather than a wholly different case or movement proposition. If you like the familiar diver format but want the dial and seconds hand to carry more personality, the SPB097J1’s treatment is its point of difference. If you are considering one used, assess the particular example’s condition and accessories; the stated 200 m rating describes the model specification, not the water resistance of an uninspected watch today.
