The cost depends on the brand and reference, the exact complication, the watch’s condition, region, taxes and any parts or cosmetic work needed. As an official example, Patek Philippe lists full service at CHF 2,100 excluding tax for its Complication II category, which includes perpetual calendars, and CHF 2,700 excluding tax for Complication III, which includes chronographs with perpetual calendars. Those figures are not a universal estimate; ask the manufacturer or an authorized service center for a quote for your specific watch.
Published prices: useful examples, not a universal rate
Patek Philippe’s published full-service schedule separates watches by complication. The CHF figures below exclude tax and apply to the categories Patek Philippe lists; they should not be applied to every brand or perpetual-calendar model. Patek Philippe’s service-cost schedule also lists CHF 900 for a manually wound mechanical watch and CHF 1,000 for a self-winding mechanical watch, offering context for its higher complication categories.

A perpetual calendar and a chronograph with a perpetual calendar do not necessarily fall into the same service category. Patek Philippe lists the former under Complication II and the latter under Complication III. That distinction is specific to its published schedule; another maker may classify or price its watches differently.

What can change the final bill?
A posted full-service amount is not always the final amount for an individual watch. Patek Philippe describes full service as disassembly, inspection, replacement of worn parts, cleaning, reassembly, lubrication, dial and hand adjustment, and complete testing. It says some items, including the dial, bracelet or crystal, may be charged separately. Case and bracelet refreshing is a separate service. Its published Swiss-franc prices exclude tax. See Patek Philippe’s service-cost details and its servicing steps.
Condition also matters: a watch requiring repair beyond the standard overhaul may need additional work or parts. Before authorizing service, ask for an itemized estimate that identifies what is included, what would cost extra, tax treatment, and whether cosmetic work is optional.

How to get a quote for your watch
- Identify the watch. Give the service center its model reference or serial number. IWC, for example, directs customers to its service-price calculator and requests a model reference or serial number; its specialists assess the watch and prepare an estimate. IWC’s service information explains the calculator.
- Describe the symptoms and condition. Note whether the watch is keeping time, whether calendar indications advance correctly, and any known damage or prior service. These details help the service center assess whether a standard overhaul may be sufficient.
- Ask what the estimate covers. Confirm the overhaul scope, included worn parts and seals, potential extra charges, tax, any estimate fee, and whether case or bracelet work is separate.
- Check the estimate policy before disassembly. Patek Philippe says modern watches produced after 1980 that need standard service and show no visible damage may qualify for an immediate estimate; other watches may require opening for a detailed estimate. Its schedule lists detailed-estimate fees of CHF 130 for a modern movement with complication and CHF 1,000 for a vintage movement with complication, excluding tax. Confirm the fee that applies and whether it is credited if you proceed. The fee schedule and service steps describe its process.
- Check warranty terms before choosing a provider. Patek Philippe says unauthorized intervention voids its warranty and that maintenance through its authorized network carries a two-year service warranty. This is Patek Philippe’s policy, not a general rule for all brands; check the terms for your own watch.
How long can service take?
Timing varies by provider, service scope and watch. Patek Philippe says reception and initial checks can take 6–12 weeks. IWC gives an approximate four-week service time depending on the work, and approximately 13 weeks for vintage timepieces. These are manufacturer-specific estimates with different stated contexts, not guarantees or directly comparable timelines. Check the expected schedule when you request your quote. IWC’s FAQ provides its timing information.

A lower headline figure may cover a narrower scope. Before comparing offers, line up the details that determine what you will actually pay:
Rank #3
- Brand, model reference and complication configuration
- Country or region, currency, and whether tax is included
- Standard overhaul versus diagnosis or additional repair
- Whether worn parts and seals are included, and how extra parts are billed
- Whether dial, crystal, bracelet, case work or refinishing are separate
- Any estimate or disassembly fee, and whether it is credited toward service
- Service warranty and expected turnaround
Do not compare an anecdotal repair price with a manufacturer’s published schedule unless the watch, service scope, parts and warranty are comparable. A price tied to one maker’s complication class is best treated as an example, not a market-wide average.
