Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →If you regularly dive with your watch, have its water resistance tested about once a year, unless the model’s manual specifies a different schedule. Test it sooner after the case has been opened or repaired, or after a hard knock or visible damage. There is no single interval that applies to every dive watch.
What manufacturers recommend
Published guidance varies by brand, and the intervals are recommendations for particular manufacturers’ watches—not a universal industry schedule.

| Manufacturer | Guidance | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| IWC | Test at least once a year. | Water-resistance testing. IWC notes that seal aging and wear, salt water, cosmetics, and impacts can affect resistance. IWC official FAQ |
| Luminox | Test at least once a year. | Water-resistance testing, recommended through an official partner. Seals around the crystal, crown, and case back are subject to wear and aging. Luminox official FAQ |
| Victorinox | Test every 18 months, or whenever the case is opened. | Water-resistance testing. The company also notes that aging gaskets, knocks, and temperature changes can affect resistance. Victorinox guidance |
| Casio | Replace gaskets every two years. | Gasket replacement in Casio’s ISO 200 m diver’s watch guidance—not a pressure-test interval. Casio guidance |
| Seiko | Check water resistance regularly; its roughly three-year interval refers to general service. | General service is not a substitute for checking resistance before diving. Seiko warns that deteriorated gaskets can let moisture into the movement. Seiko guidance |
| Hamilton | No single interval is specified in the cited guidance. | Maintenance depends on model, environment, and owner care. Hamilton directs owners to authorized service centers or official retailers equipped to test to its standards. Hamilton guidance |
For your watch, use its manual or brand service guidance if it gives a more specific schedule. Annual testing for a dive watch that regularly goes underwater is a cautious practical default, not a requirement stated by a universal standard.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhen to test sooner
- After the case has been opened. This includes battery work or repair. Victorinox specifically recommends a test whenever the case is opened.
- After a hard knock or visible damage. An impact can affect the seals even if the watch still appears to work normally.
- Before returning to diving after a long period out of service. If you do not know the current condition of the seals, get the watch checked before relying on it underwater.
- If condensation appears under the crystal. Stop exposing the watch to water and seek service.
Manufacturers identify case opening, aging, and impacts as relevant risks or reasons to check water resistance. Follow the model’s service instructions and use the brand’s authorized service channel when required.

A pressure test is not gasket replacement
A pressure test checks the watch’s current sealing performance; it does not repair the watch or renew aged gaskets. Replacing gaskets is a separate maintenance action, and a gasket-replacement recommendation should not be mistaken for a testing schedule. For example, Casio’s cited guidance calls for gasket replacement every two years for its ISO 200 m diver’s watch guidance, while IWC and Luminox recommend annual water-resistance testing.
What the depth rating does—and does not—tell you
A printed depth rating describes the watch’s design and test rating. It does not guarantee that an older watch’s seals remain sound today. ISO 6425:2018 sets requirements and test methods for divers’ watches; ISO’s public overview says the standard was reviewed and confirmed in 2024, but it does not prescribe a recurring owner retesting interval.
