Seiko’s clearest answer is to sell across a portfolio of global watch brands rather than rely on Grand Seiko alone. In its April–June 2026 results, Seiko Group said its completed-watch business grew significantly year over year, with strong performances from Grand Seiko and Seiko Global Brands including Prospex. That is evidence of company growth in one quarter—not proof that the wider watch market is in a slump or that Seiko’s future is guaranteed.
What Seiko’s latest results actually show
Seiko Group’s fiscal 2026 first quarter covered April 1 through June 30, 2026. The company reported significant year-over-year growth in its completed-watch business, attributing it to strong sales of Global Brands in Japan and overseas. Its presentation named Prospex among the strong-performing lines. It did not provide a single completed-watch sales total in the cited material, so the growth claim should not be confused with a quantified watch-only revenue figure.
The same presentation reported consolidated net sales of ¥99.1 billion, up 28.5% year over year, and consolidated operating profit of ¥15.4 billion, up 88.8%. Those are results for Seiko Group as a whole, not its watch business alone. Seiko is a diversified group with activities beyond watches, including device and system solutions, clocks, and apparel and fashion accessories. Seiko Group’s FY2026 Q1 presentation and its corporate profile establish that distinction.
Seiko also revised its FY2026 full-year forecast to net sales of ¥375.0 billion and operating profit of ¥41.0 billion. These are forecasts, not realized results; the presentation includes an expected tariff-refund impact of approximately ¥2.2 billion in the forecast. Neither the group-wide figures nor the forecast establish watch-only performance.

The strategy: make a portfolio of Global Brands matter
Seiko’s approach is not simply a choice between an affordable Seiko and a luxury Grand Seiko. In its FY2026 Q1 presentation, the company groups Grand Seiko, King Seiko, Seiko Prospex, Seiko Astron, Seiko Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports under Global Brands. Its stated strategy is to build demand across that portfolio, with different lines reaching different customers and markets.
Seiko Group’s Value Report 2025 says its Watches Business has pursued a Global Brands strategy since Grand Seiko became an independent brand in 2017. The report frames the strategy around delivering emotional and experiential value, and points to rising sales and profits as evidence of progress. That is the company’s account of its strategy and results, not an independent assessment that the strategy will work in the future.
The group also describes its MVP Strategy as focusing on “moving, valuable, and profitable” products and services. It presents its watchmaking as a combination of technology and craftsmanship. Those are strategic priorities, not proof that a particular brand or model is more profitable: the cited materials do not establish product-level margins, volumes, or price comparisons.
Where Seiko says demand is coming from
The regional picture in Seiko’s Q1 presentation is mixed by brand and market. These are management’s observations for the quarter, not an independently measured survey of the global watch market.

| Market | Seiko’s reported Q1 picture |
|---|---|
| Japan | Grand Seiko grew significantly, supported by strong inbound demand and steady domestic demand. Seiko Global Brands performed strongly, led by Prospex; the company also cited advertising campaigns. |
| Americas | Grand Seiko significantly outperformed the prior year on focus-model sales. Seiko Global Brands remained solid, led by Prospex, Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports. |
| Europe | Grand Seiko was in line with the previous year while Seiko described the luxury market as showing signs of recovery. Seiko Global Brands were strong, led by Prospex, Presage, and Seiko 5 Sports; Italy and the UK were particularly strong. |
| Asia and other markets | India grew significantly across Grand Seiko and Seiko Global Brands. Seiko also reported early recovery signs in Taiwan and Thailand, which it linked to distribution restructuring. |
Seiko’s presentation describes sales growth across the Americas, Europe, and Asia as well as solid local and inbound demand in Japan. Where a specific percentage is taken from one of its charts, the chart’s currency basis matters; the company labels some regional comparisons as constant-currency. The qualitative observations above do not imply that every brand, market, or period moved in the same way.

The “watch slump” premise is not established by the sources cited here. Seiko reported growth in its completed-watch business for the latest quarter covered, but a company can grow while an overall market weakens, or while other companies struggle. Conversely, one company’s positive quarter does not establish that the wider market is healthy. The cited corporate materials do not provide an independent market-wide time series, quantified market decline, or Seiko market-share figure.
Nor can a single quarter prove that Seiko will survive any future downturn. The evidence supports a narrower conclusion: Seiko says its Global Brands helped drive completed-watch sales growth in Q1 FY2026, with regional and line-level differences. Whether that strategy can sustain performance through a broader downturn remains uncertain.
What to watch in Seiko’s next results
- Watch-only disclosure: Look for a completed-watch sales figure or other watch-specific measure, rather than relying on consolidated group totals or a broader business-domain result.
- Consistency across quarters: A longer run of results can show whether growth persists beyond one quarter and whether it is broad across regions and brands.
- Demand drivers: Seiko’s latest account cites inbound and domestic demand, focus-model sales, advertising, and distribution changes. Later reporting can clarify whether those drivers continue.
- Plan horizon: Seiko Milestone 145 is its FY2022–FY2026 mid-term plan. It should not be assumed to describe the group’s strategy after FY2026 without a newer official statement. See the mid-term plan page.
For readers considering a product example rather than a corporate forecast, Prospex is a relevant Seiko line: the company named it among the contributors to reported performance. That connection says nothing about the current price, availability, or value of any particular Prospex model.
