The March LA.B AM2 Slim’s 1970s character comes from its hard-edged, octagonal steel case, sharp transitions and pronounced bevels—not from a documented claim that it copies one specific vintage watch. At 36 mm, it keeps the AM2 family’s angular identity in a compact format, with a crown at 4 o’clock and a raised crystal adding to its retro-modern profile.
What gives the AM2 Slim its 1970s look?
MARCH LA.B explicitly describes the AM2 Slim’s angular, ultra-beveled case as “inspired by the 70s.” Retailer Lepage likewise describes the AM2 as angular and radically 1970s in character. Those descriptions establish the intended design reference, but do not identify a particular historical watch as the model’s direct inspiration.
The shape does most of the work: the case has an octagonal outline, with crisp changes of plane and beveled facets that catch light. The 4 o’clock crown is another distinctive detail. On the Electric Ocean reference, the layered dial, tuning-fork-shaped hands and custom date display add visual complexity without softening the case’s geometry.
MARCH LA.B calls the AM2 “a watch whose shape immediately defines the iconic identity of March LA.B.” That is the brand’s own product description, rather than a statement attributed to a named designer.

How the 36 mm case wears on paper
The cited AM2 Slim Electric Ocean has a 36 mm 316L steel case, a 41 mm lug-to-lug measurement and a technical-sheet thickness of 11.32 mm. The same product page rounds the thickness to 11.5 mm in its prose; use 11.32 mm when quoting the technical specification and keep the reference attached to the figure. These dimensions describe the cited Electric Ocean, not automatically every AM2 Slim reference.
The compact diameter is paired with a broad-looking, sharply faceted outline. That contrast is central to the design: the watch is relatively small by diameter, but its octagonal case gives it a strong visual presence. A raised crystal contributes to the profile, though crystal material and shape vary by reference.

The Automatic Time Keeping page identifies that edition as limited to 50 numbered pieces. Its approximately 68-hour reserve belongs to that automatic reference; it does not apply to the quartz Electric. Likewise, the 45-month maximum battery-life figure is a manufacturer claim for the cited Electric description, not an independently tested result.

Crystal specifications are particularly reference-dependent: the Electric Ocean page says beveled sapphire, while a regional Electric Steel page says K1 mineral glass. The Automatic page describes domed sapphire. Check the exact reference and market listing rather than relying on “AM2 Slim” alone.

- Movement: Choose between the RONDA 517 quartz Electric and the La Joux-Perret automatic Time Keeping edition based on the movement type and upkeep you prefer.
- Exact crystal and dial: Confirm the full reference and regional product page; the Electric crystal material is not consistent across the cited pages.
- Strap fit: The cited Electric uses a 20 mm strap and MARCH LA.B’s tool-free Presto system. Width alone does not establish that a generic strap will fit the attachment.
