Google Takeout can automatically create scheduled archives of selected Google Account data, but it does not provide a continuous or guaranteed-complete backup of every Pixel Watch health record. Its documented schedule is every two months for one year, with the first archive created immediately. For more frequent exports, Android 14 and later offers a separate Health Connect backup schedule—but that covers data in Health Connect, not necessarily every record in Google Health.
What Google Takeout can—and cannot—back up
Your Pixel Watch syncs health data to the Google Health app on your phone throughout the day and after exercise. That sync is not the same as saving an independent archive. You can prompt a sync in the phone app under Connections, but a synced record is not automatically a Takeout file.

Google Takeout lets you select Google Account products for an archive, and some products offer controls for selecting data categories. Google’s download instructions mention Google Fit as an example, but that does not establish that every Google Health or Pixel Watch category is available for every account. Check the products and subcategories shown in your own Takeout account, then inspect the resulting files before relying on them as a backup. Google’s Takeout instructions also explain that exports do not currently support selecting certain time periods.
Pixel Watch sensor data, including accelerometer and PPG readings, is used to generate health and fitness metrics in Google Health. The available documentation does not map all raw sensor data or derived metrics to Takeout archives. Treat the archive’s actual contents—not the presence of a product name—as the measure of what was saved.

Set up a scheduled Google Takeout archive
- Confirm syncing. Check that your watch data appears in the Google Health app on the phone. If needed, use the app’s manual sync action in Connections.
- Open Takeout with the right Google Account. Sign in to the account associated with the health data and review the selectable products and any available subcategories. Select only the data you want included.
- Choose delivery and scheduling. Follow Takeout’s archive setup to choose a delivery destination. Where scheduled exports are available, Google offers an archive of selected data every two months for one year; the first archive is created immediately. Scheduled exports are unavailable to people enrolled in the Advanced Protection Program. Google’s help page says the archive link is emailed when the archive is ready.
- Wait for the archive notification. Archive creation can take from minutes to days. Takeout is a scheduled archive process, not a real-time mirror of watch data.
- Inspect the archive. Open it on a computer and check its archive browser and files to confirm what is present. Google notes that changes made after an export request but before archive creation may not be included; items still being removed may also be omitted. Do not assume the archive can restore the watch byte for byte.
Use Health Connect for more frequent exports
Health Connect has its own scheduled export feature on Android 14 or later. It can save a ZIP file to an installed cloud-storage app daily, weekly, or monthly. This is separate from Takeout and backs up data present in Health Connect; the documentation does not establish that the ZIP includes every Pixel Watch or Google Health record.
- On a phone running Android 14 or later, search Settings for Health Connect and open it.
- Go to Manage data → Backup and restore → Scheduled export.
- Choose a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule and select an installed cloud-storage app as the destination.
- Check that the ZIP file arrives and review its contents. Health Connect also provides an import function for its exported data. See Android Help’s instructions for backing up and restoring Health Connect data.
How the two export options differ
| Option | Data source and scope | Schedule | Destination and retrieval | Restore path |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Google Takeout | Selected products and categories available in the Google Account; check the account’s product list and archive contents. | Every two months for one year; first archive is created immediately. | Archive delivery is configured in Takeout; Google emails a link when it is ready. | Inspect the archive files. The documentation does not promise a complete Pixel Watch restoration. |
| Health Connect | Data present in Health Connect; not established as a complete export of Google Health or Pixel Watch records. | Daily, weekly, or monthly. | ZIP saved to an installed cloud-storage app; requires Android 14 or later. | Health Connect provides an import function. |
Neither option is documented as a comprehensive export of all Pixel Watch sensor-level and derived health data. Use the one whose schedule and data source meet your needs, and validate the files rather than assuming complete coverage.

When an activity export is enough
If you only need to share exercise activities rather than archive health data, Google Health can connect to Strava for new activity syncing, and it supports exporting an individual activity as a TCX file. The documented connection does not automatically sync historical activities. These activity-sharing options are not substitutes for a broader data archive. See Google’s Pixel Watch help for Google Health activity sharing.
