It may suit someone who values an arresting design and enjoys learning an unusual way to read the time; whether it works as a daily watch depends on your comfort with that display, its 3 ATM water-resistance rating and the seller’s warranty and service terms.
How do you read the rotating Earth display?
There are no conventional hour and minute hands. CIGA Design says the engraved Earth dial rotates 30 degrees per hour, while an inner minute ring rotates 390 degrees per hour. Read the hour and minute indications where they meet at a compass marker. The display is an intentional departure from a standard dial, so expect a learning curve if you usually glance at hands or numerals.

These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the mechanism; they are not independent findings from a teardown or timing test. The product page also reproduces comments attributed to WATCHTIME and MONOCHROME WATCHES praising the design, but CIGA Design does not identify the individual speakers. Those endorsements speak to the concept’s appeal, not its legibility in everyday use.
What does the Gilding Age offer, and what does CIGA claim?
CIGA Design’s international listing presents the watch in 43 mm and 46 mm versions at $2,399 USD. It describes a black ceramic case, domed sapphire crystal and CNC-engraved topographic Earth dial finished with 24K gold. Both sizes are listed with a ceramic bracelet; the 46 mm version is also listed with a black fluororubber strap. Confirm the exact package with the seller before ordering.

The listing specifies a Swiss-made automatic CD-04-S movement, 41-hour power reserve, accuracy of ±5 to 10 seconds per day, and 3 ATM water resistance. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured results. A CIGA Design Europe listing describes the water resistance as splash resistant. Neither listing supports treating the watch as suitable for swimming or diving.
CIGA Design also says the engraving takes more than 18 hours at 0.07 mm detail, followed by six more hours at 0.05 mm detail. It describes the ceramic case as sintered at 1,500°C for 144 hours and polished for more than 200 hours. These are the brand’s manufacturing-process claims; no independent production audit is established here.

CIGA Design says the original Blue Planet received the 2021 GPHG Challenge Watch Prize. That award context belongs to the earlier model and does not establish the Gilding Age’s performance. Prices and variants can change; compare current listings rather than assuming the difference between the two quoted prices will remain fixed.

Is the size and water resistance right for your use?
Choose a size only after checking fit
The official listing offers 43 mm and 46 mm cases. Those figures identify the available sizes, but they do not establish how either version will sit on a particular wrist or how easily its display can be read in person. If fit and quick legibility matter to you, try the watch on or confirm the seller’s return policy before committing.
Treat 3 ATM as a splash-resistance rating
The listed rating is 3 ATM, and the regional listing calls it splash resistant. Do not buy it on the assumption that it is a swimming or diving watch; the available product information does not support that use.

What should you check before buying?
A public discussion includes one prospective buyer asking whether the gilded Blue Planet is a good buy and raising servicing as a concern. That is anecdotal phrasing, not evidence of a broad owner consensus. The available information does not settle the Gilding Age’s long-term reliability or service arrangements.
