To use music and maps away from a data connection, make sure the content is downloaded to the watch—not merely available to stream or control on a nearby phone. Apple Watch music and maps are prepared through different iPhone and watch workflows; Garmin fēnix 9 Pro handles map downloads through its Map Manager and supports provider-based music downloads.
The steps below follow Apple’s current watchOS 26 and iOS 27 guidance and Garmin’s fēnix 9 Series documentation. Menu labels and supported services can vary by software version, region, and watch variant.

Download music to Apple Watch Ultra 4
Download from the Music app on the watch
- Connect the watch to Wi-Fi or keep the paired iPhone nearby with a suitable connection, then open Music on the watch.
- Find the album or playlist you want. Open More Options; if it is not already in your library, add it to the library first.
- Open More Options again and choose Download. Wait for the download to finish before relying on it offline.
Apple notes that downloading music can use more battery when the watch is not connected to power. Allow time to complete the download and check battery level before leaving.

- On the paired iPhone, open the Watch app.
- Tap My Watch, then Music.
- Use the options to add the albums or playlists you want synced to the watch, and leave the devices connected until syncing completes.
A music library entry or an available streaming catalog does not prove the audio is stored locally. Streaming needs an internet connection; offline playback requires the download or sync to have finished.

Download maps to Apple Watch Ultra 4
Save an area in iPhone Maps
- On the paired iPhone, open Maps and search for an area or place.
- Open the place or area card and choose Download.
- Adjust the selected map area if needed, then start the download. You can also add a map through Maps > profile or initials > Offline Maps.
Apple’s offline maps guide describes downloading in iPhone Maps. A map saved on the iPhone alone still requires the phone to be nearby for the watch to access it.
Sync downloaded maps to the watch
- On iPhone, open Maps, tap your profile or initials, then Offline Maps.
- Turn on Sync with Apple Watch.
- On the watch, open Maps and choose Offline Maps to inspect what is stored there.
Maps listed under On This Watch are available when the iPhone is not nearby. Maps under On Your iPhone are not stored on the watch and need the phone. Apple cautions that offline map availability and supported features vary by region, and each downloaded map covers only its selected region. Check that the relevant area appears on the watch before setting out; do not assume every location or map feature will work offline. See Apple’s watch offline maps instructions.

Prepare Garmin fēnix 9 Pro maps
Set up Wi-Fi before downloading
Garmin lists map downloads among the Wi-Fi features of the fēnix 9 Series. Set up the watch’s Wi-Fi connection after first connecting it with Garmin Connect or Garmin Express, as described in Garmin’s fēnix 9 Series manual. The watch needs connectivity to obtain map data, so complete this preparation before a trip or workout where Wi-Fi will not be available.
Use Map Manager to find and manage maps
Open the watch’s Map Manager to view and manage downloadable maps; use the Map app to view map data on the watch. Garmin’s product information describes downloadable map content and Outdoor Maps+ support, but the exact package choices and on-screen selection sequence can depend on the watch’s software and region. Follow the options shown in Map Manager and the current manual rather than relying on a button sequence from another model. Garmin’s Singapore page is for a specific 47 mm market model, so its product details should not be assumed to apply to every fēnix 9 Pro variant or region.

Download music to Garmin fēnix 9 Pro
Garmin music is provider-based: the watch stores downloads from supported music services rather than treating music controlled or streamed from a phone as offline watch content. Garmin names Spotify and Deezer as phone-free listening options, with a subscription potentially required. Confirm that the provider supports your exact watch variant and region before setting up a library.
Spotify downloads
- Install or open Spotify on the compatible watch and sign in to the account linked to your subscription.
- Open Spotify, choose Your Library, and select Add music & podcasts.
- Choose the tracks or playlists you want and tap Add to download them to the watch.
- Wait for the download to complete before leaving your network connection.
Spotify’s Garmin support instructions state that Premium is required for offline listening and that only downloaded content is available offline. A playlist visible in the app is not necessarily downloaded.
Rank #4
- Snowboarding, skiing, mountain biking, rowing, and more — you’ll find tons of additional ways to take your favorite sports and activities to the next level with Ultra 3 in the App Store. Tap in. Max out.
Before leaving: verify offline readiness
- Music: confirm the chosen albums, playlists, or tracks have finished downloading to the watch; do not rely on streaming or phone controls.
- Apple maps: check the intended region under On This Watch in the watch’s Offline Maps view, not only in the iPhone’s map list.
- Garmin maps: confirm the selected map is present through Map Manager and can be viewed in the Map app.
- Connectivity: finish downloads over Wi-Fi or the paired-phone connection while you still have reliable access.
- Power and storage: allow downloads to finish, leave enough available storage, and check battery before departure. Apple specifically notes increased battery use during music downloads when the watch is off its charger.
Which workflow should you use?
Apple’s approach starts with the paired iPhone for maps and offers both on-watch and iPhone-assisted music syncing. Garmin’s approach centers on the watch’s Map Manager for maps and compatible provider apps for music. In either case, the important distinction is whether the content has actually been downloaded to the watch. Regional map coverage, music-service subscriptions, device compatibility, and connection setup determine what will be available for a particular trip.
