If your Google Fitbit Edge is not syncing, first keep it close to your phone, turn on Bluetooth, confirm the phone has internet access, and try a manual sync in the Google Health app. If setup, pairing, or phone notifications are the problem, use the separate steps below: those issues do not necessarily mean syncing is broken.
Start with checks that apply to any phone
- Keep the Edge near the phone. A device that is too far away may not sync. Google also identifies stale stats, sync errors, missing notifications, or an incorrect time as possible signs of a disconnection. Google’s sync guide
- Check Bluetooth and internet. Turn on Bluetooth and make sure the phone can reach the internet over Wi-Fi or cellular data. Open Google Health and try syncing manually.
- Check for another phone or tablet. A second device signed in to the same account or paired with the Edge can interfere. Temporarily move other nearby devices away, or disconnect an old pairing if the relevant platform steps call for it.
- Restart both devices. Restart the Edge and the phone, then retry the manual sync.
- Check for updates and charge. Install available updates for the phone’s operating system and Google Health, and check for tracker software updates. Charge the Edge if its battery may be low.
Google’s general sync procedure is the appropriate guide for Edge sync faults; the Edge-specific support page refers users to it rather than documenting a separate Edge-only sync reset. See Get started with Google Fitbit Edge and the Android or iPhone/iPad sync instructions.

If the Edge will not set up or pair
Start setup in Google Health and follow its on-screen instructions. Do not try to set up the tracker from the phone’s Bluetooth settings screen alone. Bluetooth settings may still be needed later to remove an obsolete pairing or check a conflicting connection, but the setup itself belongs in the app. Google’s setup guidance is at Why can’t I set up my Fitbit device?.
Before retrying, make sure the phone software and Bluetooth are current and enabled. On Android, check that Google Health has the required permissions and that Power Saving Mode is not disrupting setup. If the Edge was paired with another phone, remove the stale pairing using the phone settings as directed by Google, then return to the app and follow its prompts.

Android
Review Google Health permissions, especially Location and, on Android 12 or later, Nearby devices. The exact permission requirements and labels vary with Android version. Google explains the location requirement and battery-saving behavior in Learn why Google Health app requires location services. Follow the full Android sync troubleshooting steps for the current menu paths and later recovery options, including app reinstall guidance and checking for other connected Fitbit devices.

iPhone or iPad
Check that Bluetooth, Background App Refresh, and Cellular Data are enabled as needed, then follow Google’s iPhone/iPad sync troubleshooting steps. Its later steps include forgetting the Bluetooth device and pairing again. If you reach that point, complete pairing through Google Health rather than starting setup in Bluetooth settings.

Notifications have their own configuration and can fail even when syncing works. First make sure the phone itself receives the alert, then check that Google Health is set to forward notifications for the apps you want and that the phone’s notification permissions allow them. Keep the phone within 30 feet of the Edge for phone notifications, as Google specifies. Check whether Do Not Disturb or a sleep mode is silencing alerts.

Force-quit and reopen Google Health, reset Bluetooth, and sync again. For the app-specific notification settings and iPhone/iPad recovery steps, use Google’s notification troubleshooting guide. Its iPhone/iPad flow includes resetting system notifications and setting them up again after forgetting the Bluetooth connection. If pairing prompts you to allow notifications, accept the prompt. Not every phone notification is necessarily available for forwarding, and a silent alert alone does not establish that syncing has failed.

Charging is a separate issue from Bluetooth or sync. Google says a charging cable is included with the Edge and directs users to its device troubleshooting path. Check the charging connection and use the Edge’s charging instructions before treating a connectivity problem as a battery fault. Consider a replacement cable only if charging itself is the problem, and verify exact Edge compatibility before buying one; a cable purchase will not resolve phone permissions, Bluetooth, app, or internet issues.
