Before you pair Google Fitbit Edge
Google says the Google Health app supports most phones and tablets running Android 11 or later, or Apple iOS 16.4 or later. You also need a Google Account and an internet connection. The companion app and setup menus are called Google Health in Google’s Edge-specific instructions, so don’t assume that menus from older Fitbit app guides will match.

If possible, connect the tracker to its charging cable and power it on before starting. The box includes the Edge tracker, small and large wristbands, and a charging cable. Google recommends wearing the tracker on top of your wrist like a watch. Push a band into the tracker until it clicks; without that click, it may not be secure. Google’s Fitbit Edge setup and feature guide covers setup, fit and device controls.

For quick changes on the tracker, swipe down from the watch face to open Quick Settings. Swipe up to see incoming notifications. If Edge becomes unresponsive, holding the side button for 10 seconds forces a restart. Google’s Edge help guide describes these on-device gestures and controls.
Customize the watch face, tiles and display
Choose a watch face
In Google Health, customize a face’s color and complications, then select faces to install. Edge can save up to six faces for quick switching on the tracker. A complication can show information at a glance; tapping an interactive complication can open its associated app or metric, such as Health or Exercise.
Adjust tiles and display options
Use the Edge device settings in Google Health to customize tiles and display options, including Always-On Display, Screen Wake and screen timeout. Choose an information-dense face and tiles if you want more details at a glance; a simpler layout can reduce visual clutter. These are preference trade-offs, not a claim that one layout suits everyone.
Google’s 2026 guidance gives approximate maximum battery life of up to seven days under default settings, based on California testing with pre-production hardware and software and a median Edge-user battery profile. Google gives an approximate maximum of up to two days with Always-On Display enabled. These are not guaranteed runtimes: actual battery life depends on enabled features, use, environment and other factors. Google’s Edge help guide explains the battery estimates and their qualifications.
Choose which notifications reach the tracker
In Google Health, open the Edge device settings and go to notification controls to manage which apps can send notifications to the tracker. Edge supports call, text and app notifications. On the tracker, swipe up from the watch face to view incoming notifications; open Quick Settings and use Do Not Disturb when you want fewer interruptions. Android users can also use quick replies. Google’s setup guidance does not establish identical notification or reply behavior across Android and iOS, so check the current instructions for your phone’s platform rather than assuming every notification type works the same way.

Google describes Edge health features that include heart rate, sleep, recovery, blood oxygen (SpO2), skin-temperature variation, ECG, blood-pressure trends and insulin-resistance trends. Availability depends on country and device for some features. Google says SpO2 is for general fitness and wellness, not diagnosis or treatment. ECG is available only in select countries and is not intended for people under 22. Blood-pressure and insulin-resistance trends are not clinical readings or prescreeners and should not be used to change medication or treatment. Google’s Edge help guide sets out these feature limitations.
