The right fit depends on more than the number printed in a product listing: case thickness and shape, wrist proportions, and personal preference all matter. The trend is worth noticing, but the evidence available does not establish how widespread or lasting it is.
What “smaller” means—and what the trend does not prove
A consumer article from Love Luxury describes a shift away from oversized sports watches toward smaller designs. It offers mobile devices, changing style preferences, and demand for sleeker designs as possible explanations, but these are the publisher’s interpretations, not demonstrated causes. The available evidence does not establish the trend’s market scale or whether it will last. It also does not identify a specific new watch or launch behind the headline.

For someone choosing a watch, the practical takeaway is not that luxury watches should now be small. It is that a smaller case may be worth trying rather than assuming a larger one is automatically more suitable.

Look beyond case diameter
Diameter is only one part of the fit. Case thickness and shape also affect how large a watch looks and how it sits on the wrist. Two watches with the same diameter can therefore wear differently. Compare the complete case and its position on your wrist, not just the millimetre figure.

Use wrist measurements as a starting point, not a rule
Love Luxury suggests 36–40 mm for wrists measuring 14–18 cm, with larger sizes for larger wrists. That is the publisher’s sizing advice, not an industry standard or a guarantee of fit. A 34 mm case can suit some wearers and feel too small to others; wrist proportions and individual taste determine the difference.
Try it on if you can
Love Luxury recommends trying a watch in person where possible, because listed dimensions cannot fully convey how it feels or looks on a particular wrist. If an in-person try-on is not practical, compare diameter, thickness, and case shape, and consider how those proportions relate to a watch you already know fits comfortably.

How to decide between a smaller and larger luxury watch
- Start with comfort. Check how the case sits on your wrist and whether its thickness and shape feel proportionate.
- Compare the whole watch. Do not make the choice on diameter alone; consider thickness and case shape alongside it.
- Choose the look you prefer. A smaller case is an option, not a universal upgrade. Pick the size that feels right to you rather than following a trend.
What the available sizing guidance can—and cannot—tell you
The published guidance offers a useful reference point, not a definitive sizing system. It does not establish one best size for every wrist, nor does it show that every luxury-watch maker is moving to smaller cases. Treat the trend as a reason to broaden what you try on, not as proof that a particular size is correct for you.
